It looks like one of a kind.

I just saw a teaser for this film and it looks exceptional, a great novel looking to become Shirin Neshat's masterpiece.

I do not know the full context of the politics and the history, so I cannot comment.

Yes, reality is never magic and vice versa. But that doesn't mean that cinema can't be magical, or can't get away with showing events and situations that cannot exist in real life. I would see why some would think the movie was slow but I loved the pace of the movie and the sumptuousness of many of the scenes, such as the garden. There were also some very moving, heartbreaking and terrible scenes, particularly the girl who was scrubbing herself in the bath. I do not see how this film can merely be propaganda.

1) Yes, I am aware of that.

2) could you explain more? Like I said before, I don't know a lot about the history of Iran.

bluesdoctor are you an idiot or something? The reason Mossadegh wanted to nationalize the AIOC is because it is HIS country and since he was the democratically elected head he has the right to see how HIS country's resources are utilized - his main aim was to nationalize the oil so as to provide education for the masses - he wanted to make the workforce competitive so as to raise their standard of living.

"Couldn't he have negotiated some kind of profit-sharing arrangement with Britain?"

He did - Imperialists don't like sharing.

It's incredible you call Mossadegh's move 'hubris' - isn't hubris the exclusive domain these days of Judeo-Chritian parasites wanted to impose THEIR will on other peoples? Hubirs is an overweening arrogance displayed by certain zionist entities in attempting to rape Iraq under the guise of 'democracy' - I had no idea that democracy meant posting YOUR puppets without the people having any say in the matter!

"Propaganda plays too large a part in the film for it to be true "art."

So anything not corresponding to YOUR worldview is 'propaganda' eh? Stick to Faux News, fool and let the whole world laugh at you!

"This is fantasy, not magic realism. In fact, there is no such thing as "magic realism." Reality is never magic; magic is never real."

'Magic Realism' is a term given to a certain genre visited by authors mainly from South America; it is used to describe the tall tales woven by people to avoid any unpleasant memories of the past or to minimize the hurt of loss felt by someone; or just to big up oneself I suppose; mostly done by poor people in an effort to escape their oppressive surroundings. Not applicable to the fat, glib or narrow-minded like you.

"One thing is true, however: The biggest human rights violation in the world is the way Muslim women are treated by Muslim men. (Current headlines: 13 year-old Jessie Bender ran away from her California home because her Pakistani stepdad wanted to ship her to Pakistan for an arranged marriage. It is quite common in Muslim countries, like Yemen and Afghanistan, for older, wealthier men to coerce [read buy] young virgin girls into "marriage," an arrangement which is nothing short of socially sanctioned rape and pedophillia. See movie "Osama.")"

The worst place for women is actually around the war-torn Congo region of Africa - but since most of the guns shipped for fighting wind up as profits in the pockets of 'civilized' peoples, there is no murmur in the press.

Columbia and Guatemala also have a rash of kidnappings and murder sprees of women; all in heavily populated metro areas - most of the perpetrators of the killings are ex right-wing paramilitaries who are now into the drugs trade; since they are technically 'allies' of the US no murmur from the press about them either!

The situation of women in the country where I currently live, India is pretty dire: female infants are aborted so there is a skewed sex ratio; particularly in the Punjab region. But India is pumping money into the hands of corrupt Jews in the World Bank so no mention of it in the press.

Oh yeah, most young women from Bangladesh and India WANT to get married off to older men in Arab countries - they treat them well, do NOT have sex with them (that is a job for the first two earlier wives) and are paid a stipend by which they can send back to their families to educate their siblings in their respective impoverished third world countries; so at least the rest of the family is better off. P.S. Yemen and Afganistan do not 'coerce' young women in marriage - it's usually men from Saudia and Dubai who do so; at least get your countries right before you post!

P.S. In the south Asian countries like India, the female has to pay a large dowry to the groom's family before marriage; in Arab countries it's the opposite, the man has to pay the woman a large sum of cash and or valuables before marriage; a lot of Arab men are fed up of getting bilked by women who take the money and then disappear/ and or make up some excuse to break the engagement- hence the search for girls from Bangladesh etc. They tend to be young and poor as poor families tend to marry off their daughters very young and as professional career women want to marry rich, older men but will not relocate - too much time and effort. Poor families will charge less as well - so they get a dowry in return for the daughter instead of becoming more poor; the daughter earns a stipend and sends money home; the family benefits as a whole - what is your problem? You'd prefer they become prostitutes (like the former USSR states) and then wind up dead by a drugs overdose later on in some gun runner's yatch like they do in Israel? The girls are treated like au pairs and they are looked after the elder wives; they are NOT sex slaves. After the old coot pushes off depending on how rich they are they stay on the country and get married to some younger dude. Or buy property in their native countries, start a small business and give the rest of their family members jobs. OK?

Funny that you always equate sex into the mix' most of the people who abuse youngsters sexually happen to be tourists from 'civilized' countries like The Netherlands and Sweden. But becoming a sex toy is still better than getting your kidney stolen which is what the Israelis are doing to small children in India!
