Imdb Top 1000 ratings

On this particular film the folks that are "the IMDB 1000 people" ratings people, had 25 people give this film a 1 out of 10 rating which obviously is not right. I gave the film a 9 because I loved it, but realize everybody is not going to rate it that high. The two reasons I can think of that it has so many 1 ratings is a)it has many 10 ratings and people just gave it a 1 rating to balance it off or 2)its a movie a marine park which of late has come under a lot scrutiny because of their treatment of animals. I just don't understand the reasons for the rating. Also has a sidelight, the IMDB rate films much lower than everyone else, it kind of makes me think they are film snobs. Any thoughts on this?
