Atheism for the WIN!

This documentary has already failed. Us Atheists that are "good for nothing" already know that stealing and murder are wrong. And I'm 100% certain that the Jews of old already knew this too.

The world needs all religion to finally die the slow, painful and bloody death it so richly deserves. We don't need a revival.

I would rather have the 1st Amendment then the 1st Commandment ANY day!

The 2nd Foundational Falsehood of Creationism owns your god.

The MPAA or VoMeR or whatever rating systems there may be, are designed to advice people about the content of films, why am I still not protected against StrongReligiousContent (perhaps SRC)? I’ve been watching for like 87 minutes of this and every few minutes we hear words like “redemption” or some patronizing bombardment of guilt creating rattle. It’s really humiliating, are religious people really that far down the line they need to constantly be reminded of that? Or am I missing something, I don’t think so. Talking about brainwashing!
So please some authority, create a rating code by which we atheists know what to avoid in the future.
(And yes I’m in the habit of watching till the end to come to an objective conclusion)

reply

I'm a Christian and this film really has no interest to me. But I would hope that you have the intelligence to avoid any brainwashing and won't suffer too much by forcing yourself to listen to Christian themes (allegedly, since I haven't seen the movie).

Did you need this warning when watching Schindler's List, Fiddler on the Roof, the Ten Commandments, or Ben-Hur? Did you need an authority to help you with that or are Jewish themes tolerable?

I hope in our society we can watch non-religious, Christian, Jewish, or Islamic movies and not need government intervention regarding it.

Yes, this "film" is shamelessy religious (cringe); but it is about each of the 10 Commandments (being broken one-by-one) so it is rather dumb of us to take issue/offense with the religious "undertones" of it.

There are actually NO undertones in this movie (puke) because it is all front-and-center. It is actually BLINDING and surely nobody has been surprised by any of this.

I'm a Protestant but I understand why others are not and I also understand why others have/follow other religions. I have NO problems with anybody. I simply chose to believe there is a Creator as I think there is too much structure and order in the world for everything to have come about through chaos alone (but this is JUST my opinion).

But all of this does NOT make me like this movie. It is awful and dreadful with terrile dialogue and even-worse acting. It is worse than a high school drama club performance and it is yet another of those pandering, low-production value film(s) of religious drivel that insultingly preaches to an audience that has stopped caring about ALL of it 3 minutes into the movie.

Shrieking, harping, eye-rolling, impatience, feigned sympathy ... ugh, razor blades please!?!

The film could have been about a horse race or a mission in space or a wronged man/woman; and the end-result might have come about differently although I'd bet not as the film as an agenda -- "I'm good and saved and YOU are NOT!"

Again -- with people like this who'd want to be saved along with them? Words cannot fairly sum-up how wretched this THING is. You've been warned.

reply

Ok, you seem to care for the commandment-thing, this film seems to have touched you in your (luckily) protestant view of the world but you're still a few steps away. Abolish faith and be relieved for ever. Why? Look through the veil and gain knowledge. The mirror behind will show you.

reply

Read your reply, let me tell you I've been to Sunday school and had my share of indoctrination, lived my whole life in a christian-induced society. You tell me I got no view on this? Question: do you have a view on anything beside your religiously confined doctrines? We can talk, sure, you just need an open mind.

reply

gerlfalcon -- are you addressing me? I know a lot of people who grew up in the church and left it. I have no problem with that because I understand their reasoning ... my whole reason for "believing" in something else is structure and order (something that would shame many Christians).

You mentioned watching 80 some minutes of this film ... but look at the films distributor/production company. It says it in the opening credits generally and it lets us know it'll probably be a religous film. "Upper room" (heaven) multimedia produced this ... I wasn't overly aware of them before this; but I know I won't watch any of their shoddy films in the future either. Nobody is going to tell me what to think.

I have a very open mind -- I think the film sucked; but to criticize it for having religious undertones was dumb b/c it is a religious film. The previews before it played were all Fireproof-esque films ... it was supposed to be that kind of a film. It is like criticizing Friday the 13th for being a slasher film.

I think the film was awful and tried to beat people over the head.

I don't know what comes next ... I don't claim to know. I just think there was some creation that has evolved over billions of years. I am very open-minded about all things ... but I don't see how someone could be surprised that this was a film with a "christian message".

Sometimes it's hard to resist the temptation to react to things other people say when their own inner convictions are addressed. That goes for me as an atheist as well as for those who still hold on to faith as guidance in life. I don't condemn individuals, I do condemn systems like the catholic church that's been fooling us for two thousand years. We know that system will eventually crumble and leave us to figure it out all by ourselves, no help from above. Facing the universe that’s creepy, leaves you out there in the cold, makes you feel tiny but we have our science to guide us, all those hard working specialists who are trying to unravel the basic principles that caused our being. My children are part of that experience as I think it should be. We don’t need dogmas to define ourselves. No borders can ever limit our eagerness for the search of our being. Religion is not a valid way to face ourselves; we need to be free to define ourselves. For that’s what we’re going to do and I’m glad for that.

I watched this for about 30 minutes and turned it off. To tell the truth it is a very depressing movie. No redeeming quality at all.

If I had known it was going to have this much religious undertones to it, I wouldn’t have rented it.

If you really think about it religion has stifled scientific research over the years claiming it is against gods will.
