Surely they didn't produce this 'movie' for actual theaters ...did they?

I can't imagine paying money to see this in a theater.
I actually had to look here at IMDB to see if this was a 'made for TV' production.
Truth be told, I'd feel just as ripped off, if I had purchased the movie on DVD or through Netflix.
Lifetime, Nickelodeon, Disney, etc. perhaps, but certainly not worthy of asking viewers to actually pay to see it.

I realize it was very low budget, but how on earth did they make any profit?

As I'm now 28 minutes in to this thing(only because I had it on while writing this post), ...time to turn the channel.

My generous rating. - 2/10

You know, movie "titles" are often chosen for a good reason, and I think this one was. "Mayor Cupcake?" That doesn't give you a strong hint as to what it is? My wife and I saw it and enjoyed the whole thing, it was just about what we thought it was going to be, a cute family movie featuring Lea Thompson. I doubt that anyone involved in its making thought it would be a blockbuster.
