I just saw this movie- and I got confused as to why Charlotte slept with Yardley-
And why was Yardley pretending to be British?

She sleeps with Yardly, so he would manufacture the story about Hillary. This helping him get out of a town he hates, and get her man out of prison.
He pretends to be English to so that he will be given a chance as a reporter.
Not to mention Yardley is hung like a Tennessee mule. A unique attraction for white trash women.
