peeing on jellyfish stings

so would this really help ?

reply

No, but Charlotte didn't know that.

reply

THEY DID IT ON "FRIENDS" SO OBVIOUSLY IT WORKS.

reply

Yes, it's common knowledge.

Signatures are stupid.

I think its kind of been debunked. Back when the movie is set though it would have been thought to be the thing to do.

I'm getting the word 'Nonce'

reply

But it worked in the movie. Maybe cause it's Nicole Kidman.

Cursing somebody on his birthday....

Thoo.

reply

Maybe cause it's Nicole Kidman.
Haha. Well, it cured some itch of his.

Apparently saltwater or vinegar help and fresh water will aggravate it. Urine is so different person to person that if the person urinating has drunk a lot of water it could actually make it worse.

reply

It has certainly been a remedy that has been known for a long time. I have heard of it but am pretty sure that more recently it has been debunked as an effective treatment.

Also, we do not know that it worked in the film - we only know that Charlotte did it and Jack recovered. The newspaper assumed that it was the pee that worked.

Since urine is acidic (like vinegar), I figured that the jellyfish's venom was alkaline, and that the urine was supposed to neutralize it. But like someone else mentioned, it would depend on what the urinater (is that a word?) had consumed that day.

reply

Does it work or not? Interesting, but the real unanswered question here is, Who first discovered this treatment for jellyfish stings. Someone was stung, and someone suddenly decided to urinate on them. Why did it seem like a good idea at the time???

reply

yes, it works. I have done it to my hand after a sting. It was the weirdest feeling.

It made it stop hurting very quickly.

reply

Maybe someone got stung on their leg and was so shocked that they had an accident. Then they discovered the sting felt better.

reply

Why did the critics make such a big deal about that scene? I think the misconceptions about the film prevented it from having a wider release. I live in the third largest city in the US and it was here for only one week.

reply

I was wondering why they made such a big deal too. I assumed it would be sexually related but when it was for jellyfish stings, I totally cracked up! She supposedly really peed on him, which I guess disgusted people, but I don't think it would have been nearly as much of an issue if a dude had peed on him instead...
