The honesty in the movie is brilliant -

I grew up in Louisiana, with kin from south Florida. My father was a white kind hearted 'redneck' living in and around the swamp most of his life, before being sent to Vietnam. My mother was an African American woman from Texas, they were together for over 36 years.

People like this really do exist, they are real, colorful with interesting past and back stories. I went to see my grandpa one time, the scene with all the women and children......it was spot on,...except they were not naked. I had the best time, those few days will be with me for the rest of my life.

I think white America has a heard time acknowledging its many colorful demographics, and thats fine, but ya miss'in out big time. You haven't lived until you sip sweet tea laced with moonshine on a porch, looking at the hot Florida sun dip into the horizon, relaxing, while a man with many lives, tells you the tales of his youth, gory bits and all.

I love America and all its flavors -

I can't say that I enjoyed this movie, but I did watch the entire thing and found the people and thestoryline to be believable. I'm not from the swamp, I'm from the mountains in NY, but I too can identify with the "redneck family on the porch". I think having Anita tell the story of that time in young Jack's life was brilliant. It was obvious that they were very close, especially because his Mother had left the family.

The acting was solid and while some parts were rather disgusting (the self pleasure scene, the gator gutting scene, the gay bloody bondage scene in Wards hotel room and the peeing scene ... (though that one was amusing).....)
it all made sense.
