Is Stone a flat out communist?

I'm only three episodes in. I see he has another film about his buddy Hugo Chavez. That would be a red flag right away but he makes the US look like monsters for Japanese concentration camps as well as the two atom bombs. Meanwhile he glorifies the war achievements of the Russians constantly. He implies that the defeat of the Japanese was only made possible because they entered the pacific theatre rather than the 4 year grind and heavy bombing of the mainland. He quickly dismisses Stalin's atrocities to his own people in the 1930s and then makes it appear that Truman's foreign policy prompted Stalin to react in such a way that we had the Cold War. Why is this guy so apologetic about how the Americans went about conducting themselves? Does this guy really believe we would have been better off with a world shaped more like the one Stalin wanted? Where would he be and what freedoms to make films would he enjoy then?

I got similar vibes from the series but I've just rolled my eyes at those moments. I was happy to see a documentary about WW2 that spent actual time on the eastern front considering that's where the bulk of the violence was. At least he didn't omit atrocities committed by the USSR all-together.

At the very least he's got socialistic tendencies, if he's not a full blown Communist. I really appreciated the time spent on Henry Wallace. It reminded me of the 2016 Democratic Primary.

He's an extreme Socialist but he's definitely hypocritical throughout the entire series... Not with what plays out, because much of it is just the reality of War... But as you noted, with the WAY he chooses to ignore so much of the atrocities commited by Communist and Socialist Governments across the Globe. I actually enjoyed the series. I think most people would benefit from alternative POV's, as long as they don't become brainwashed by One-sided opinions. I just find the Hollywood Dems to be just as hypocritical as anyone else can be... They make millions and their entire fortune is a result of Capitalism in one form or another, yet they preach that we shouldn't want the finer things in life. Hard work is just Right Wing/Fascist Propaganda to people like Stone.

Having immigrated from communism as a child and a mother who lived it quite thoroughly as a doctor, answer is no.

Communism is against private business. Stone is a socialist but he's not against private business or he'd never make movies like he has.

This documentary series glosses over communism because America isn't communist. The series is about America. Can't understand why people miss that.

I would recommend you watch part 2 of his documentary when he analyzes pre-WW2 policy. He digs into Stalin and communism as a whole.

He's a progressive socialist, far from a communist.

I watched the entire series. He apologizes a lot for American presidents. A bunch of war mongerers from his point of view. I very much enjoyed the series but understand his politics too well to ignore the bias.

Just like anything, gotta take it with a grain of salt.

Led me to research on my own, so I found it invaluable.

Isn't this quote contradictory?

He apologizes a lot for American presidents. A bunch of war mongerers from his point of view.

Stone has socialist ideals, that cannot be denied. However it does not taint the presentation of this series and, for example, did not in fact dismiss negatives of Stalin. Stalin and Truman were both garbage and it was presented as such in this series. Truman was seen as a hero to many in the US and it is for that reason that more time was dedicated to clarifying a few important points about him.

There was a total of about 5-10 minutes through the course of the twelve episodes that deviates from rational unbiased presentation of facts to editorialize an obvious point of view. I did cringe during those moments, but I can definitely live with that ratio..compared to what we get on US mainstream news and propaganda disseminators.

Truman was a great President. Stalin the most monstrous tyrant in human history Would the America-hating nitpickers have preferred Russia to win the Cold War?
