What's with modern horror these days??

I watched this with a black friend of mine.Beer and movie night. We both agreed that there's a politically correct/affirmative action element to contemporary horror/slasher flicks that makes some good movies bad and bad movies even worse.Formula, is what I'm saying. I'm from Texas and have a lot of black friends, so don't go throwing the racist thing around, but this type of movie (camping friends besieged by evil monsters or killers)inevitabely casts: A:The self-centered ,air head black girl, and B:The punk black gang banger,sex-crazed male(also an idiot) who both are totally irritating. My friend thought the very same thing. We are Texans, and he could tell you that most black people(especially youngsters) are not really nuts about camping out. It's not their thing. Actually,I could have believed this movie more if it was a group of black kids on a camping trip. So tokenism is alive and well.

As for my other thoughts, this could have been a passable film without all the other stereotypes (the girl in angst over her relationship with her mom(necessitating grueling segments of inner-searching and drama accompanied by cheesy music),and the uninvited guest angle with Maya's white guy friend and his snooty bitch girlfriend. Stereotypes, all.

Cruddy creatures,too.

Move on, nothing here to see.....

Since that 'inevitably' happens perhaps you can name two more movies that did the same thing?

Political correction is a major reason why horror sucks now. Then it's the bad acting (porn acting) and lame cinematography (i.e. speeding up parts, why?). Not to mention the over-dramatized music scores.

I think all these Hollywood brats who spit out today's "horror" movies need to watch a movie like the original "CANDYMAN", which is everything horror is supposed to be. Matter of fact, "CANDYMAN" should be a core requirement for these nerds.

And some retards think old school horror is bad, they must not even watch the new sh*t, ha!

My problem is that this horror movie takes forever to get to the action. It was like a teenage MTV drama with their chitchat and bantering back and forth. Don't get me wrong, I find horror movies that are full of killing and action packed gore scenes for 90 minutes boring. I enjoy a slow pace most of the time and like when movies give you a chance to get to know the characters and the setting. But even in the slowest films there is usually a creepy, brooding atmosphere where you can just feel something isn't right and it is suspenseful. I didn't feel uneasy at all the entire film so this movie didn't have that. It was just teenagers camped in the woods talking on and on and on for about an hour and 15 minutes, and then all of a sudden a monster comes and starts killing everyone and then the movie is over. Sure there were two or three death scenes spliced in but they didn't amount to much. I don't know why they didn't show more of the monster because the costume looked great for such a low budget movie. They needed to use it more.

This movie wasn't awful, but I think there are ways it could've improved.

Death lives in the Vault of Horror!
