Why Christians should not be allowed to make films

This tired, treacle story is racked by myriad problems. Apart from the goofy religious bit, the actual movie-making was inferior. The wooden performances rarely evoke empathy or understanding.

Whoever wrote the script should be commended...I mean "beaten."

I can not clearly see the little "award wreaths" on the movie poster, so I do not know what awards the film claims to have won. The artwork design made the film appear to be a smart indie film.

LOL -- I couldn't agree more. "Movies" like these should be labelled clearly: "WARNING! May contain religious garbage poorly disguised as an actual movie."

I didn't know about the awards either, but I took the time to check out the only one that has so far been entered on the awards page here on IMDb. And lo and behold, the "Central Florida Film Festival" turns out to be exactly what one might suspect... http://articles.philly.com/2010-09-04/entertainment/24976072_1_faith-b ased-films-central-florida-film-festival-faith-based-movie

I don't consider myself a Christian, but I do have two school age children that have friends that are being bullied, and this film was allowed us to talk about bullying and what they can do and how they should treat people. Yes the production values are low and the acting his not great but it is worth watching

I agree with Matthewarchibeque. It's no Avengers, or Lord of the Rings. It's not supposed to be. You have to understand that this movie was probably done on a very extremely low budget by people not in mainstream Hollywood.

If you can get past the fact that the actors are are basically new to acting, and not that great, and the production value isn't so great, then you'll see what lies underneath is a great story with a powerful message. Bullying is a huge epidemic that is sweeping through our schools. I just saw the news yesterday or a poor band member who got hazed and died as a result.

This movie (firstly a book) is trying to make a difference in the world instead of just entertaining you for 2 hours but have no real message other than just sheer entertainment.

You have to look past all that and listen to the message. Bullying is a real thing and kids who are on the losing side like this boy in the movie... my heart goes out to them. I have young children too that are in Elementary school and I hope they never get bullied, or are the bully.

Ya the central theme to this was about bullying and so far the comments Ive read seem more about bullying christians...and by the way Im not a Christian..but Im sick of these open attacks. If it was a jewish or muslim based movie no one would dare as they would openly be called ignorant bigots. If we are to call ourself a democratic and free society, one of any faith or lack therof should be allowed to make movies. Its called freedom of speech and anyone who thinks Christians shouldnt be allowed to speak scare the hell out of me. So keep trying to bully and Ill be there oppsoing you because what you have said is wrong and intolerant and basically just ignorant bigotry.

Awe, the nice former fat kid gets a happy ending. I like it. I didn't think it was too preachy. It's not like Kirk Cameron made an appearance. I agree that the acting was bad. I just take it at face-value: very low budget, after-school special kind of story.

The point of showing the church scenes in the movie is that he had no support group at school and at least had one place to rely on. It could have been a mosque, a temple, a Boys and Girls Club, YMCA or any other group. But he did have one place to go that was "safe." His challenge was to move beyond that group and find friends in other places too. I thought it was a sweet movie and it is really geared to preteens. It can be watched with parents and start discussions.

I agree.

This was also a true story, written by the guy who went through it all as a kid.

It's not so bad. This movie wasn't religious to me at all.

A purely religious movie wouldn't have a scene where a girl lifts her shirt to exposes her black bra.
