Maybe one of the reasons this show was killed....

...was the positively awful name of the show, and its equally awful theme song. Why not call the show "Schnauzers" or "Doxins," or some similarly weak name? And what was with that theme song (if you can call it that)? It sounded like someone was talking into a toilet while hitting keys on their Fisher-Price keyboard. I could have done better myself, and I have ZERO musical ability.

reply

No way. Gunfight Epiphany is awesome.

reply

Agreed!
Robert Duncan is brilliant.
The show's theme could not have been better.

Just watched the entire series in 5 days thanks to Netflix.

What an awesome one season wonder this was.

The theme song is great, and perfect. The show's title is good, but rather misleading to the uninformed, plus the show and its title were badly marketed, if ever.

Dear god, what do you consider good? Gunfight Epiphany is one of the best opening themes I've ever heard, and the extended version has such interesting lyrics.

reply

The theme song is awesome, but the only reason I even watched this show was because I am a fan of Donal Logue. The name definitely had me unsure whether I would like it. Then I watched it, and it's hands down the best TV show I've watched. I've watched the whole season multiple times. Never gets old.

reply

I'm just watching this now on Netflix. I only started because I liked Donal Logue on "Life" and Michael Raymond-James on "Once Upon a Time." I'd seen the title before but it didn't clue me in on what type of show this was. Also, the show had zero marketing. I watch "Archer" on FX but don't remember ever seeing an ad for this show on its own channel.

reply

How do you like it?

"You people don't understand. I'm not locked in here with you, you're locked in here with me!"

reply

'surf's down!' would have been a better title.

loved, Loved LOVED the show. But they didn't promote it at all. All of my friends thought it was another dog show like Dog Whisperer or something.

reply

I thought they were going to be like Ace Ventura - a show about guys who track down lost and stolen pets.

So many other silly or trite names would've worked - "Loose Cannons" or "The Fixers" or whatever. Something a bit more generic so marketing can work with it. I suspect "Terriers" was a conceit of the showrunner - an idea for a show title they fell in love with, and didn't realize it wouldn't work for most people.

reply

I believe it was the name too, and possibly the marketing. I ignored this show completely when it actually was airing cause I was sure it was a dog show.

reply

Terriers are dogs that are known for not letting go of something. Persistent.

That may be well and true but when someone is scrolling through the guide on cable TV, many are going to ignore a show called Terriers by dismissing it as a dog show. To ask someone to make the connection between a random characteristic of a dog, and a characteristic of two PI's in the show is asking a bit too much. Especially when you're trying to get people to tune in for the first time. Yes the name makes sense in the context of the show but it doesn't make sense from a marketing perspective and probably led to the demise of this highly acclaimed show.

It's a shame because as someone else said, an equally silly, yet better worded name would have made it much easier to market. They made all the right decisions on this show with everything else and failed on the easiest one. Sad cause they really had something here..

reply

While I love the title, it's true that it was a poor choice (mainly due to a lack of marketing though).

However, I love the part in (I think) episode 2 where they're trying to come up with a name for their agency

"We need something that lets people know we're relentless; that once we're on the case nothing is stopping us."

"...I've got nothing"

"Yeah, me neither"

I didnt pick up on that until my 3rd run of the show

reply

"but when someone is scrolling through the guide on cable TV,"

If I saw " terriers " and it was in a guide so shit there was no other clues , I would know it was a metaphorical title , not a show about a particular breed of dog.

hmm, why am i talking to a four year old ghost from a different site?

Love your spelling of "doxins" 

I recently discovered this show on Netflix, quite by accident, and I love it!! I'm only about half way through and I'll be sad when I'm done. It's quality stuff.

I doubt that the theme song had anything to do with its cancellation, but you might have a point about the name. It really is a crappy title for such a good show.
