What the hell is the point of Scott's kid???

These guys are here to kill people and break things. Why is there this irritating loser character whining about how Scott is a drug dealer and telling him to drive safer when being chased by guys shooting at them? This might be a worse character than the awful kid in the strain. Someone decapitate this guy

Had this series not already jumped the shark a dozen times, this would have done the trick. Extraneous, unecessary and unnatural father/son relationship. This "kid" (unlike his father in every aspect) is thrown into the storyline merely to be placed in jeopardy.

Bogus -- excruciatingly bogus.

The only thing worse than the kid in The Strain is cancer.

I'd rather actually have cancer than watch that awful kid on the strain

Lazy writing?

It's a story, and in the story are characters.

I know I'm waaaay late to the party, buuuut...

Adding the kid to what they expected would be the last season of the show was a way to round out the Scott character. He had no real emotional connections, (except for when he started to fall for his co-worker - and then she was killed). Adding the kid meant that the character could weigh the grander themes of his life like 'you mean there's more to life than running and gunning?', and it throws the question 'is this all really worth it' in his face, which has been a significant undercurrent in the show. Plus it gives the actors more actual acting to do rather than just endless stunt work and sex scenes.

That said, I didn't like the whole kid plotline. I would have preferred that they found another way to humanize Scott.

Your summary makes logical sense, but this is strike back.....we watch to see hot babes getting nailed by Scott and bad guys getting killed

Yup. I get it. I think it was a last ditch attempt to give the actors a reason to do another season. As an actor, if you are continually doing the same thing, and it's a 'one-note' character, it makes your job boring but it also means that you really run the risk of getting type-cast in the role because nobody sees you actually act. We got a glimpse of what Stonebridge was capable of right in the first season because he had a wife, so right off the start he was a better developed character. Scott took a back seat for most of the season, and in the end I think everyone involved was ready to move on from the show to do something more challenging acting wise.

That said, I really think the show should have kept going and just rotate Stonebridge and Scott out of Section 20, while new actors pick up the mantle. It's a show that could go on forever... and even leave room for them to come back and do guest spots.

Anyway... it still stands out as one of the best shows I've seen for weapons handling and movement/tactics. Whether hyper accurate or not, it *looked* like a significant step up from the average show. I miss it enough that I'd like to start making some content that does it right.
