I rarely post on imdb, but after seeing this ........

I saw the trailer and it actually sent a shiver up my spine.
Told a friend we HAD to do "movie night" and go and see it.
It actually never appeared in theaters in Rockland County, NY - about 20 miles North of NYC.
With great anticipation, got hold of a dvd copy today.
After 45 minutes of hoping, just hoping it would get better, I finally hit STOP and ended this piece of sh*t.
If you knew nothing about Hank Williams, if you did not know what an icon, what a legend he was, this movie would do nothing to enlighten you.
Awful script. God-awful direction. Disjointed. Boring. Mindless..
Marc Abraham wrote, directed and produced it?
I hope I never again have to suffer anything you create.
You, sir, are clearly a twat.

Tom Hiddleston was excellent!

Hiddleston is excellent, the cast are all good for that matter. But that doesn't save the movie from a bad script, messy editing, and aimless direction. 'Walk the Line' this ain't.

reply

Yes, but it is "Walk Hard."

reply

Hiddleston was the only good thing about this movie. The story was slow. The other actors dragged everything down

reply

I think Hiddleston did the best he could with what he had to work with.

We watched it last night and it looks like I was thinking the same thing as everybody else.

I've been a Hank Williams, Sr. fan since a child (never cared for his son personally or professionally) and have almost every song he recorded that's on CD (used to have tapes and records but out of style and more difficult to replace). I kept waiting for this film to be about his life and music, his influences, inspiration, and who he was as a person. All i got was: he really wants to be on the Grand Ol' Opry. He drinks a lot. He's all about himself. He is a womanizer. WTF?

I don't know who this film was about but it sure wasn't Hank Williams. I'm not saying those things didn't happen but they, taken out of context, just create a portion and not the whole.

I am on the road less traveled...

This movie does not remotely suggest Williams had any joy performing or composing music or that is was any more important to him than a job at a factory. And Tom Hiddleston is very mediocre in the role despite the raves from his fans: it's more of a pose than a performance.
