Golden opportunity missed

This could have been a tremendous film. But, it turned out to be, at best, amateurish. Fragmented storylines (not resolved), a hindy ending cry out for a real script. Darkened scenes, participants unknown, are supposedly "artistic." Puhleeze! Have these people not seen a movie in the last quarter century?

All the more tragic, because the actors were more than equal to the challenge. too bad none of them were given the opportunity to develop a character.

That should be "hinky."

Completely agree - this movie started out with such promise and the leads were great but the writing and directing was an absolute mess. I just threw up my hands at the end.

reply

with a better script and directing this could have been good.

Excellent film.

I'm fed up with tragic endings punishing the gay guy and spoiling the whole film!

reply

So if I get it right, there's no right to kill a gay character in a movie, that's it?

IMO the scriptwriters are allowed to do what they want with their characters. It's not always a punishment. I don't wanna see a serie of happy endings caused by that kind of pressures. Gay people is free to exist just as writers are free to kill whoever they want in their story.

I hate the idea of the holy divine punishment at the end. And I don't like when the black guy dies first either. But if it's done with a certain cleverness, why not.

I didn't say that. In this case the difficulties for the boy of living in such a homophobic environment were clearly stated already. It was totally innecesary to emphazise this with a death. There are plenty of films ending in this way showing luck of inventiveness or plot work. Of course is just my opinion and of course directors or scriptwriters have the right of doing whatever the want with their stories.

I totally agree with you. I assume from the point of view of a young homosexual who's dealing with that kind of issues, this end can be really hard to handle.

The director could have try to turn the end in a subtil way. Make it a little more ambiguous, to make it harmless but he wasn't his choice. And it's a first feature I think. So, he and Johnny Ferro are still learning but for a beginning I praise their courage talking of this problem.
