If you are over the age of ten and like this movie, you have issues.

I'm sorry but seeing all these alleged adults post praise about this thing makes me genuinely worry about our future and the future of cinema in general.

Have you seen the movie?

I'm 20 years old and I'm genuinely looking forward to this movie. I grew up with Legos and if you're over the age of 10 and have issues with this film, then... I'm quite worried about you and question whether you had a childhood...

"I'm over age 1o"

Your grammatical prowess says otherwise.

So you believe that the power and freedom of imagination and creativity is only reserved for those under the age of 10. And everyone else should focus on "grown-up" movies focusing on drugs, sex, violence and profanity?

I don't believe you have ever built anything with Lego...if you had, you would know that you’re never too old to "click-a-brick".

Release your inner child...or is that your problem? Where you ever even a kid?

reply

There's nothing wrong with believing in the power of freedom of imagination and creativity as an adult, but this movie... I don't know. It seems aimed direction at children. The jokes are just... not funny. End the world on Taco Tuesday? Everything's awesome?!(overuse of the word of "Awesome" in general). "Come with me if you want to NOT die!". "Oh My G-O-S-H!"(I don't know anybody over the, at least tween years, that talks like this). Wyldstyle auto-tuning "Everything is awesome!"(Really?! Auto-tuning's still a fad?!!) and the robot saying, "This is my my jam!". That's really, REALLY kiddie stuff. Even though I DID grow up with Legos, this is obviously targeting non-adults. I can't say I found anything remotely funny(in the trailers and commercials) other than Wonder Woman's invisible plane blowing up. Everything else is meh, and seems to obviously tap into the pop culture of now and what kids think is "in", when in Lego's themselves are more universal than that. Meh.

Still, unlike the TC, I don't think anybody who actually likes these jokes are bad people. Maybe I'm just too old to get the references. Though, I DID like Frozen(and Wreck-It Ralph) and found all the jokes in those movies to be great. Maybe I wasn hoping this movie would have the same universal feel as a Disney movie. IMO, that would've been more fitting(something more universal and less dated by the modern era).

Oh I get that this animated movie about a kids toy is aimed at kids...you didn't have to let me in on that secret. But for me and I am sure a lot of other "older" fans, I feel this movie is about reliving those fond memories of spending hours with a pile Lego bricks up in our rooms or wherever without a worry or care in the world.

Humor is a relative thing, what I find funny, you may not and vice versa. I will wait till I see the whole movie to judge its "humor quality" And I would expect there to be jokes and puns aimed at kids. I've also read that there is a good amount of humor aimed at the older audience as well. We will just have to wait and see.

I am older and never played with Legos as a kid, so I guess I should have known better--but I got swept up in the hype.

I agree. Also, I saw this movie with my middle school and high school (Junior at the time) children and a number of high school students (small town, knew most of the audience)... and they all LOVED it. The earwig of Everything is Awesome is the joke. The fact that it is just as orchestrated (or architected) as a Boy Band is the point. A year later, it is still my son and his best friend's favorite movie. There is something in the cliche of the fitting in and the struggle to be independent that speaks to these young men getting ready to strike out a little more on their own (could they REALLY be living on a college campus next year without someone to remind them that, hey, it's getting late - if the homework is done, maybe it's time to head to bed).

reply

Did you hear the wooshing as every joke in this movie went right over your head???

reply

^This.

We should probably be feeling bad for the people who think the world should only be a dark serious place, and it's not ok to be inspired...or laugh. That's not the world I want for my kids.

reply

straw man argument. Laughter and inspiration have a place but this was for children.

reply

All I notice is that the OP hasn't returned to respond or further justify their position.

reply

Thanks for reminding me. One of many unfunny jokes in the movie. "i heard a woosh." hahahahahahahahahahahahahahahahahahahahahahahahahahahahaha. Get it. I heard a typical movie sound effect. Get it?
Those sounds aren't typically heard in real life.. hahahahahahahahahahahahahahahahahaha

It's chock fulol of references for one thing when everyone was captured notice it focused on Wonder Woman when she was handcuffed, no kids would know why this is. Adults who read comics would, because originally the way to make Wonder Woman powerless was by a man restraining her.

Also the whole idea of the world being a Stepford Wife type place where there were clear nods to books like 1984 and Brave New World and you say this is only ten year old, this movie lovingly references so much and you ignored it because you decided movie just for kids, of course the more obvious references would be cheesy but the ones you need to listen for, not so obvious, go figure.

reply

I can beat that. I am 24, have never been into Lego, but I still think this looks great and look forward to seeing it.

reply

I find it more concerning that there are people who can't seem to grow out of this juvenile "bwah-bwah, you're stupid 'cause you don't like the same things I do" attitude. Worse still are those who think that this is somehow a mature stance to take.

reply

So, you're saying there's something wrong with every film critic out there? Because so far this film is looking to win the academy award next year for best animated picture. Not only that, it is the BEST reviewed film thus far of 2014 and best reviewed since at least a couple of months.

reply

You seem to me to be a cranky old fart. Try enjoying yourself once in a while.

reply

such hypocrisy! lulz

That was a pretty effective piece of trolling, OP.
