The idea was that all the Conan fans would watch "Conan" and stick around for "Lopez Tonight." However, some tried and just didn't like "Lopez." I am one of those people. I gave Lopez a chance and the show was awful. It seems that Conan and Lopez have two different audiences and in the end this move to midnight was a mistake for Lopez's show.
shareAnd how is this Conan's fault?? It was TBS' decision. Are you suggesting that Conan "screwed" George because he was given the 11 pm timeslot??? Remember, George said he totally understood TBS' decision and said he was totally in favor of it. Bottom line, all this talk about the importance of timeslots is pointless. If George had been able to put together an engaging, entertaining, humorous and fun show he wouldn't have been cancelled. I watch Conan and then switch to something else. If George had come on first, I would have watched something else at 11 and then watched Conan at midnight.
Sure, it was TBS' decision, just like it was NBC's decision to move Jay Leno back to 11:30.
It's time to crucify Team Coco for their role in the destruction of this show.

I can't believe COCO screwed Lopez. Conan is clearly mailing it in and hates TBS. His show is so uninspired and Andy Richter refuses to be less awkward.

Leno screwed Conan.
NBC screwed both Conan and Jay.
Conan screwed Lopez.
That's not the way Lopez described it. However, once he's out from under the terms of his contract I wonder if he'll be saying something else about how thrilled he was to be bumped later into the night. We'll have to wait and see.
Truth of the matter is: George Lopez was not doing very well in the ratings right from the very beginning. Rather than cancel the show after only 1 season, TBS decided to take a gamble and wait and see if Conan's audience would also watch Lopez. In other words, Lopez would have been cancelled even sooner if it weren't for Conan. Oh, and I'm also a Conan fan who tried on a few occasions to sit through Lopez (i.e. whenever he had a guest on that I wanted to see) ... it was painful to sit through his show; he may not be the worst talk show host ever (i.e. that honor probably goes to Chevy Chase or Tempestt Bledsoe or Pat Sajak), but he was BAD - VERY BAD!
