Are there any currently running shows of similar quality?

Seems that nothing even comes close. For example "Blacklist" has similar IMDB rating (8.2 vs Justified 8.7) but I watched a couple episodes and it is just garbage, insulting to one's intelligence if one has any.

Have you tried Fargo? Season 2 is kinda filling a Justified hole. It has some similarities to Justified season 2 storyline as well so far. I still love Justified better but, Fargo is pretty darn good this season.

Ray Donovan is awesome

Banshee

I watched a couple episodes and it is nowhere near Justified. Sex for the sake of sex, violence for the sake of violence and shock value, not much more to it.

The story is good, so are the characters, the things you described are just there and it gets more controlled as the seasons progress, the story is never dull or boring and there are a lot of plots, which all of them are solved in their due time.

Season 1 goes for the shock value, but this show gets way more balanced in Seasons 2 and 3, give it a try.

What's wrong with sex for the sake of sex?

But seriously, I rather like Banshee although I agree it's not in a league with Justified.
Justified's great strength was the way it captured to quirky black humor of Elmore Leonard's writing. Banshee doesn't have that, but it does have a pretty involving plotline (although about as realistic as True Blood) and some hot bods.

My only question is: why the heck doesn't the main character shave?

Longmire is solid. Not on the same level as Justified but close.

All of the shows mentioned are good in my opinion(except Fargo, which I have not seen) but nothing comes close to Justified. Longmire is really underrated as far as I'm concerned.

reply

longmire is far superior to justified...i've watched about 20 episodes of justified so far and i'm having a difficult time with the lagging pace and the loser marshal that can't seem to focus on the job rather than the pussy...the guy that plays his father, raymond barry should retire from acting

Completely agree. Longmire is quite possibly the best TV series of the last few years. Thankfully, Netflix saved it and the first Netflix season was fantastic. After we watched all of the most recent Longmire season, we started watching Justified as we heard it was similar. While I still think Longmire is better, Justified is really getting me hooked. Just finished season 2. About to start S3.

I too am looking for a show to full the big boots that Justified left behind.

I gave Longmire a shot, and whilst still a serviceable show, the leading man falls well short of having the swagger or wit of Raylan Givens, and the cast in general isn't as strong, nor the storylines.

For those that suggested Fargo, I too agree it is a very good however it's a completely different feel to Justified.

For those that have seen it, how does 'Hell on Wheels' compare?

reply

I'm sorry to tell you that there is nothing that compares to what Justified was able to achieve and there likely never will be again. I recommend re-watching the series. There is so much you miss the first time.

And I thought I was a pessimist 😀

Nobody has mentioned Sons of Anarchy. It's a different sort of story line but there does seem to be crossover appeal-- people who like one show tend to like the other, or so it seems.

Get the facts first - you can distort them later!

reply

Fargo for sure. Season two has been very similar to Boardwalk Empire also.

Hap and Leonard. Just wait.

"This life's hard, man, but it's harder if you're stupid!"

reply

I love Hap and Leonard, but without Walton Goggins, it just doesn't measure up. Same for the Outsiders.

reply

Well, I will answer my own post and say that I just finished 1-st season of "The Man In The High Castle" and I really liked it.

I can't wait for the second season but I hope it will not mess the show up like alternate universe line in "The Fringe" where it was also a great idea but execution was not very good, it just turned that show into a mess
