great ideas, bad movie.

It looks like they based the whole script in the idea of ,"let's make this real mafia thing, where they are normal people" and the filming in "they are trapped, so let's show that" and they didn't even came with a well developed ending and everyrhing was there for no reason, and they were outlining the obvius all the time. I think the line (paraphrasing) "not because you said them together, it makes a connection" describes pretty much how they didn't think of what they were dealing with. Awfully done, boring and a waste of good ideas.

I disagree.....I thought it was great.
It was meant to be shot at a languid pace (have you seen the directors other stuff?) It's reminiscent of Ken Loach (or even Shane meadows) mixed with grindhouse exploitation elements. The fact that it moves at a snails pace was intentional. It's just that you didn't enjoy it.

The guy playing the father was great (very deadpan) you should check out the deleted scenes (if you have the DVD or BLU-RAY) very funny indeed.

Different strokes for different folks, I guess?

I was hoping this movie made me see the great director everybody says he is, but I've disliked everything, I guess yes, maybe it's not the kind of directing I enjoy, but also i feel he lacks of the magic that it takes to make an art piece.

First off....Thanks for the reasoned response (on a message board full of argumentative trolls) it's a breath of fresh air.

I don't think the director is one of the all time greats. He seems like a 'patch-work' director (not an out-and-out plagiarist like Tarantino) but he seems to mix and match his genres, and let's his actors improv a lot of stuff (as long as the basic themes are still there) I like his style....although it's hardly original. I just like the mundane atmosphere (very Mike Leigh like)
I really enjoyed KILL LIST as well (although maybe not as much as DOWN TERRACE) and to be honest, I haven't seen his other movie (Daytrippers....or is it sightseers?) because the trailer reeked of false hip (I may be wrong) it may be brilliant......but I think he may have hit the 'Hyperbole' preiod of his career, were critics and luvvies see no wrong in his work.

But none of this takes away my enjoyment of his first two movies. Like I said, horses for courses amigo :)
