Ironhead doesn't give Pope the coordinates to the hidden money until after Pope leaves the bank and it's clear that he signed over his share of the recovered money to Redfly's family.
Question: Do you think Ironhead would've given him the coordinates if Pope had decided to keep his share? Was it a test?
Good question. Maybe gone back himself with a different crew and then given the money away? Once Redfly was killed it became blood money to him so I doubt he would've kept it.
I don’t think he was planning to do anything with the info
It looked like something he’d scribbled down just after the crash, so he’d had it ready before Redfly died
So he might’ve given it to Pope as an afterthought more than a conscious test
This was an unconventional film because the characters were generally competent, cooperative and stable. They didn’t seem the typical flawed-hero heist protagonists, so it wouldn’t be necessary for them to “test” each other like that
I figured he noted the coordinates when the did the drop, probably out of habit -- seemed to me like a special forces thing to do
And, because none of these guys were corrupt or untrustworthy, once they all started leaving their shares to Redfly's family they could assume Pope would follow suit -- no need to test his loyalty before handing over the coordinates
That's why I think it wasn't a test of Pope so much as an afterthought. Sorta like, "By the way, I noted the crevasse coordinates; I don't want 'em so do what you like with 'em"
