There was no way that plan was going to work.

It did have some good moments. 6.5/10

Is it better than Triple 9 at least?

If Affleck wouldn't have been so greedy. If all wouldn't have been so greedy it would have. Just throw more millions out of the chopper, mark the map and maybe come latter ...

reply

You just knew the whole thing was gonna go to shit. I kept wondering why nobody suggested stashing the money somewhere and coming back for it later.

The ending seemed to imply that's what they inadvertently ended up doing anyway with what appeared to be written coordinates by the guy who always counts/remembers everything.

reply

Yeah it wasn't gonna work. Also something that wouldn't work is stashing the money and coming back for it. By then it would be crawling with even more enemies. The ending implies son of anarchy guy saved the coordinates for the main actor cause he knows he'd be the one to go back. He would've shared it everybody else before they split but he only gave it to him

reply

I see no reason why it wouldn't work. They were in the middle of nowhere and their enemies didn't know where they were. Hidden well enough they could've waited months or perhaps even longer to retrieve their stash. Just stash it in an arbitrary & well hidden spot & map the coordinates. Come back for it later.

As was mentioned the ending implies that's essentially what happened anyway so it would have worked had they all thought of it & not just the "remembers everything" guy.

reply

They were in the middle of nowhere but they were being tracked for days by a villager who winded up shooting Affleck

reply

That to me was a borderline plot hole. You'd certainly think such highly skilled and experienced professional soilders would have anticipated & taken precautionary measures against being tracked & ambushed so easily.

That aside they were tracking them to kill them (especially Ben Affleck)in what was basically a suicide mission, not steal their loot.

reply

Yeah, it would have easily worked.

They should have planned for that as a backup from the very beginning. It was the first thought that came to my mind when they realized that they weren't going to make it over the mountains. Just land in some nowhere place, stash the bulk of the loot, GPS the co-ordinates and return a year later.

In the meantime, they could have kept enough to keep them rich for a few years, and taken that lighter load over the mountains and safely to the coast.

reply

Indeed. That's so obvious and i forgot to mention that even though that was one of my earliest thoughts as well. Just take all the cargo and before you get to the mountains simply find a place to stash just enough cargo to pass the mountains safely. Map the coordinates and come back later for the rest.

In the end impatience & not exploring all the options seemed to be the bigger problem rather than greed.

reply

They got greedy...

They all could've gotten away no problem and still have been rich. The temptation to take it all and be super rich was just too great I suppose. Of course if they were modest that would've been the end of the movie

reply

I agree with that rating.

Kinda liked how Affleck's character turned into a huge arsehole, but in general, a bit of a predictable story.

reply

I DID work and would have been successful, if they stuck to the plan.

reply

they got greedy.

reply

Exactly. And stupid.

reply

Yes, they could have made it out with 1/5 of the money - $50 million. That is $10 million each, which should have lasted them a little while.
