Oh, hon, it wasn't just her whose accent was bad. It was supposed to be set in Britain, but all the soldiers had Canadian accents. ? It's perfectly understandable that the scientists could all be from different countries (including Canada and the US), but the soldiers were just weird.

Personally, I think someone who actually has a genuine connection (place of birth etc) to a country has very little excuse for having such an appalling accent.

It's either down to a poor grasp of accents or just plain laziness.

I could not agree more! I think they both lost their ability to do believable accents on P15257, the planet of crappy accents.

The thing about Torri and this horrible movie is she keeps slipping in and out of her bad accent, which only makes things worse. And believe it or not, Torri's bad accent was better than Amanda's in Sanctuary.

Yeah, I think Higginson's accent is the worst i've ever heard, including some high school drama. Tapping's accent in Sanctuary...not good, not at all...but at least it was consistantly bad. Torri H's slips in and out and pretty much runs thru every variation of accent thats ever been mistaken for british. I found it incredibly distracting, not to mention totally unnecessary to the plot. So on the first day production, ex wier turns up doing this wretched voice.. At that point doesn't whatever syfy director say 'nuh uh..fergetit. You're american from now on'? Why continue to let it be such a crappy distraction? Not the best movie, but not bad for churn em out syfy fare...the accent knocks at least 2 points off imo. Bummer, cause i didn't dislike her at all in atlantis.

I must admit Higginson's accent in this was very odd. It was on again off again combination of sort of British, Canadian and US accents.

Also the British Major (not what the rank insignia say) has a very odd accent as well. At least Peter Wingfield is English.

The thing is most Americans watching shows made for the US market find bad UK and OZ accents very acceptable.

Virtually no one outside of Australian actors and some Kiwis can do convincing Australian accents. They are generally so gratingly bad. It usually ends up sounding like a very bad Cockney accent. It's "G'day" people not "good-die".

Check out Jeff Bridge's "accent" in Blown Away. It is much the same.

Agreed with the bad accents but Amanda Tapping was born in England. IMDB says she grew up in Canada but I'm sure she heard plenty of good accents to give her a leg up.

Tapping? What accent? She isn't bad, like Tori, and I blame the directors for not dealing with (or even hearing) their bad accents. I mean, Olivier's American accent was bad, but that doesn't mean he was a bad actor. I like both Amanda and Tori because they have good personalities, but they aren't really good actors, but a bad accent isn't necessarily a sign of bad acting. I've known plenty of bad actors who have done believable accents...and vice versa.

Higgenson was perfectly aware that her accent was bad, and pleaded for a dialect coach, but what we shall laughingly call the budget would not allow it. She took solace in the fact that she was sure no one would see the film. Of course, she forgot about us "phuk-ahs" (her word, not mine).

Yes, the accents were doggy but got used to them after a while.

What got on my goat were some of the lines that Jacob voiced e.g. when he was being picked up by security and the first thing he says “Top of the morning to yer” That is an Irish greeting not an English greeting. When they were heading off to New York and again Jacob says “Tally Ho”, was just plain weird.

The steering wheel on the “English Army” trucks were on the wrong side; they should be on the right hand side not left.
