Why Canadian Soldiers?

When Stonehenge is surrounded by British Army bases, surely any soldiers would be British???

reply

The movie was filmed in Vancouver, BC.

I guess they thought/hoped/expected that no one would notice.

(On another thread someone pointed out that the major was actually wearing a captain's rank insignia.)

I guess that shows just how much respect the production company has for the viewing audience.

All I can say to the writers, director(s) and producer(s) of those "Sy-Fy Channel VERY Original Movies" is:
I admire your ability to get paid for that.

reply

Yeah, and smart they were too. They where expecting a nuclear blast, but they did not turn their eyes away, they where looking straight towards the point of impact, without any eye protection.

reply

Good point!

I've long maintained that the writers, directors, and producers of these shows have absolutely NO respect for the intelligence of their target audience.

(I feel so old! I can remember when science-fiction was written — and read — by people interested in science.)

The amount of real science in these Sci-Fi Channel [Extremely] Original Movies isn't enough to make you blink if it were to fly in your eye. That's why I say again to the writers, director(s) and producer(s):
I admire your ability to get paid for this.

Actually, by that response, I think that they may be over-estimating the intelligence of their target audience, as you're missing the point.

Sci-Fi Original movies aren't supposed to be more than they are: cheap b-movies inspired by the likes of Roger Corman, who actually produces a number of them. They aren't supposed to be smart, and the audience for them largely knows this. (I'm sure that there are those who don't watch them ironically, but they're in the minority.)

reply

SilentJay32, I'm very curious to know your idea of who their target audience is.

reply

I saw a bunch of people using British Camo, British Rifles, and even the Union Jack. So where were all the Canadian Soldiers?

reply

I served for nearly three years in the British army just a few miles away from Stonehenge. I didn't see a single foreign soldier anywhere near there.

Whatever nationality the soldiers in this were, they certainly were not British.

What happenend to the two major roads that run really close by to stonehenge.
There are no F16s in the RAF. Surely there was some stock footage of a Tornado (or though long obsolete, a Vulcan or a Jaguar) they could have used
The miltary vehicles are wrong at least they could have used a couple of beat up landrovers painted green. For goodness sake even SG1 can find a landrover to signfy "not in North America" !
This was obviously aimed at the market that has never seen a documentary faturing stonehenge or the British military.
