What is with the rating on IMDB?

Ok, maybe this is not the greatest story ever told but it is a reasonably entertaining and decently rendered story that holds appeal for most ages.
I give it a fairly solid 6. I watched it with my 8 year old and he seemed to enjoy it.
So, why is it running at a 4.6?
In my rating scale, if a movie is below a 5 then it is pretty much unbearable - this certainly wasn't that.

It sounds awful and looks awful and the story is nothing new. I was wondering why the rating is so high. My last film looked radically better and the sound was a 100X better and we had 200K! I wish I could show you at least the sound work. We filled 50 tracks of sound and I got rid of that flat studio sound by pan hand panning the voice overs. Drives me nuts they are getting tens of millions for these miserable animated films.

Here's a web link. Check out the "My Lost Film" at the bottom center to see what I did for 200K.

You think your film looks better?

Wow.

Most people using IMDb haven't seen it yet. It's not been released in any English-speaking territories. The biggest territory so far is Russia, where it was shown on 738 screens, stayed on for 8 weeks, and was in the top 5 for two weeks. If IMDb was Russian the score would be around 7 or 8!

Doesn't the I of IMDb stand for "international"?

As I write it, here is the rating report :
US users 153 4.9
Non-US users 1374 5.5

Actually IMDb = Internet Movie DataBase

IMDb, once for discussing movies, now a facebook substitute. Off topic and all drama.

It's the 21st Century. EVERYTHING is unoriginal by now. However, if someone simply dislikes a film on a personal level, "unoriginal" is usually used as a justification for a negative review. I seen the "Amulet" books get such reviews on Amazon.

Coming from someone who grew up in Southern Africa and visited the Zambezi region often, I've never heard so many Jamaican accents in a film supposedly set in Africa. other than that, the movie was quite ok.

A lot of people tend to vote in extremes.

Didn't find the movie mindblowing? - 1
Enjoyed the movie - 10

The movie is enjoyable in my book, doesn't mean it's a 10, I'd give it a 6.5-7 on a realistic scale.

On a scale of 1 to 10, a 5 would be average. If you consider 5 and below "unwatchable", you're cutting the grading curve in half; judging movies on a scale of 5 to 10. Grading something according to your own personal scale kind of defeats the whole purpose of having a public grading system, doesn't it?

That being the case, if you give this movie a "solid 6", it sounds like you didn't think much of it. A 6 on a scale of 5 to 10 is pretty low... equivalent to a 2.5 on the 1 to 10 scale.
