Go kill yourself, Harmony Korine.

This is the kind of movie that makes me realize there is no god. How can Harmony Korine keep being allowed to work? This entire "film" (masquerading as a sort of mockumentary, featuring the worst old age make-up I've ever witnessed) is a completely worthless, utterly useless waste of fúcking time. Absolutely no redeeming quality whatsoever. Yeah, this is "art." Go ahead and tell me how unsophisticated I am for not gleaning the "social commentary" (or whatever hidden message you think is behind this piece of shít). Try to convince me what a "genius" he is for putting this out into the world. All you have to do is watch five minutes of any given one of his movies and you'll realize what an no-talent hack he has always been. Face it: If you didn't know it was directed by Harmony Korine, would you even give it a second thought?

This "film" (I truly hesitate to use that word) solidifies him as the worst filmmaker of all time. I have no idea what anyone sees in his work, and I wouldn't want to know any one of his so-called 'supporters' in real life. In fact, I would dare to call all his fans "trash humpers."

P.S. That obnoxious, recurring laugh in the movie is the most repugnant thing I have ever heard in my entire life.

So, you didn't like the film?

PS

If you think Harmony is the worst filmmaker of all time:

A.) There are a lot of filmmaker you need to be introduced to

B.) Go see Spring Breakers.

Also, Harmony Korine is an artist. In other words, he's like David Lynch; he doesn't really care what the hell you think about his work, just as long as you have an opinion. That's what makes him great and a true artist. He doesn't have any needs to please the audience. He makes what he wants to see.

Seriously though, go see Spring Breakers.

I saw Spring Breakers last weekend and that's what took me on this odyssey of exploring all of his past films. I thought it was completely overrated, but definitely his most marketable and mainstream picture, thus many people are calling it his "best" film (by default).

I made this post comparing all of his movies here: http://www.imdb.com/title/tt2101441/board/nest/212202993?d=212396709#2 12396709

I've seen a lot, A LOT of movies, so I feel I'm qualified to judge them on this basis. But of course, this is my own opinion, and I don't expect anyone else to agree with me (much like he probably couldn't care less about what I have to say).

Obviously Korine were aware of how bad the old age make-up was. You've seen Spring Breakers thus seen how aesthetically aware Korine is a filmmaker. There is no explicit social commentary or hidden message necessarily. You watch it and interpret however you will.

Almost everything you've said shows that you're way too caught up with the paradigm of mainstream film. "mockumentary", "message", "social commentary". None of these words apply to Trash Humpers. Trash Humpers only asks one question. What is your reaction to it?

Occasionally I don't "get" movies. I didn't really take much away from Federico Fellini's 8 1/2 despite critics' near unanimous recognition of its artistic genius. Maybe I'll watch it again in a few years and better understand the fuss. I'm also bored by a lot of static artwork. I do not claim to be above the artwork. It just does not appeal to me.

I will try to offer some substantial reasons to why I found value in Trash Humpers:
Omission of narrative + contextual vacuum Films relying on explicit narrative can become a *beep* bore after a while. There's definitely something surreal or at least far removed from the expected in Trash Humpers. It also fills you with questions and acts as a kind of mirror to your own intellect. What do you take from each vignette?
Shock factor: Many will cast this off as an inherently bad thing. But personally I enjoy its unflinching boldness. It doesn't have much respect the viewer's taste and sensibilities. It is masochistic for some but for some that is enjoyable. Yes its repugnance and ability to disturb simultaneously filled me with intrigue. In the same way it offers little regard to social conventions and isn't as limited as a film directly designed to appeal to an audience. Do you find it interesting to ask yourself "Why is that laugh repugnant?" What is it about human nature that is irritated by that laugh.

Lastly, don't be convinced that there's no logic behind this film. Certainly it's whimsical but there are recurring themes and an albeit unconventional coherence to the film. Think about the folk song and the 'make it don't fake it' chant etc.

No one is forcing you to like Trash Humpers, but it would be good to try to start dropping expectations of what films should be and be a little more generous when it comes to film. It sounds cliche but it really frees your mind and allows you to appreciate so much more.

Korine tries way to hard to be an artist
That quite frankly is why he fails
You either have it or you don't
You can't fake it

But he achieved what he set out to do - this makes him a sound film maker. It also delivers what it promises - this makes it an honest film.

All the feelings and opinions that come after that are secondary. You didn't like? Fine. But it doesn't mean it wasn't a successful film.

Never let your sense of morals prevent you from doing what is right.

....and all over this he should kill himself?? it is Korine, what were you expecting?
