Sigh Kimba then Simba now Khumba.

Lots of thought going into all this...........

The first two were Lions, Khumba is a Quagga.

You are missing the point. Its the continuation of the generic use of the same sounding name to pique interest, and even trick viewers.

Standard marketing stuff, but again just dumb.

Maybe I am missing the point:

- Simba = Lion in Swahili
- Kimba = Bushfire in Aboriginal Australian, the character was named "Leo" in the Japanese original
- Khumba = Skin in isiZulu and isiXhosa.

While Kimba/Simba do sound almost alike, I find that Khumba is a bit further away.

I'm not sure why they called Leo Kimba in the 70s. But both Simba and Khumba are named for specific meanings in different African languages. Languages which are related to where they are located in Africa. Simba somewhere in East Africa between Kenya and Tanzania, and Khumba in South Africa.

I don't think that the makers of Khumba had intention to trick viewers into thinking that it has something to do with the Lion King.

Why would one jump to the conclusion that it's got anything to do with Kimba when seeing a zebra looking for his missing stripes named Khumba? It more sounds like Pumba.Kimba was my favorite cartoon when I was a child and I wouldn't connect it, I didn't.Was different with Lion King though. ---Lincoln Lee: I lost a partner.Peter Bishop: I lost a universe!
