A different take...

I see a lot of folks saying this film showed that Jack is a jerk to Meg and he orders her around. But honestly I read entirely differently into that. It looked to me that this is simply their playful, harmless dynamic.

For example, when he "yelled" at her to speak up he was simply giving her a hard time in a playful way. That's how it came off to me. I wasn't until I read these boards that I thought it could be interpreted in any other way.

When he asked about the AP interview, I got the impression that he was joking. I mean, besides the fact that I can't see Meg to be the type to set up an hour-long interview with the AP of her own volition. Seemed like either Jack agreed to it, or somebody else set it up. He seemed to be just teasing by blaming her for the interview.

(Like when somebody jokes saying "who's dumb idea was this?" When they know full well it was their own idea.)

By the end of the exchange in the car, after Jack pretends to be angry at a couple people (not just Meg), everyone in the car, is laughing and smiling, including Meg and Jack. So yeah, I think those people who see his demeanor as serious, probably shouldn't take it that seriously at all.

Anyway,
By the last scene it's clear that they're very close. I imagine working and touring with a person for 10 years would make you about as close as family.

I get what you mean and largely agree with it. Jack does (mostly) jokingly push Meg around, that's their dynamic...

But there's a fine line at times between taking the piss and passive-aggressive manipulation.

Don't get me wrong - I don't think Jack's abusive, at all. But I wouldn't blame Meg if she had enough of all that *beep* either.

The people who took any of the conversations as serious or abusive are either to young or haven't had any meaningful relationships. He/they were teasing. Get over it.
