Miserable Meg!

I love The White Stripes, but why does Meg have to look so miserable in this DVD? Was this filmed the time the 'Sex Tape' was being shown on the internet?
Its only Jacks driving force that gets them through this tour!

Maybe she's miserable because Jack is a complete *beep* to her. Did you not pick up on this at all? Also, its pretty obvious she was not into the whole day show thing, this is especially obvious when they go to meet "the elders". She looks at Jack at one point like "what the *beep* are we doing here?".
After watching this film it all makes sense as to why, once they got back to the states, Meg essentially quit the band. She simply is not into the what Jack wanted to do on this tour. and BTW, I think Jack is a genius, and the most important musician to come along in the last 20 years, so Im not hating on him. He simply treats Meg like *beep* so many snide little comments throughout the film.....

Yes, the impromptu gigs did look like she'd rather be doing other things.
Thanks for clearing that up

Jack reminds me of my brother. He kind of treats Meg the way my brother treats me, teasing me, picking on me, pushing me around a little. I think he does care about Meg, he just must not realise that he actually hurts her feelings by acting that way.

I get the feeling you're violating somebody's basic human rights here...

If Meg had a choice, she'd never leave her house...ever. She clearly can't handle even the smallest, most insignificant human interactions. She's got problems and she's dragging the White Stripes down because of it. I wouldn't mind it all if Jack fired her ass and just recorded everything himself and then hired a session drummer for the tours. F-ck Meg White.

That seems a bit harsh! I don't think Meg would ever have chosen this career or lifestyle for herself. Jack must have talked her into it, and sort of taken her along for the ride. It seems like she was okay with that at first, then it finally started to get to her that she had no control over her life. Meg seems like a really sweet girl, and I think Jack is smart enough to know that without her, there would be no White Stripes.

Meg is not comfortable with celebrity or fame. She's reasonable comfortable behind the drums.... or at least, that's how the shots of Meg while playing came across to me. When she's in the 'vibe' of the music, she's fine. But everything else associated with being in a massively successful band, she's clearly not comfortable with. Her body language is awful - a shy girl, always shrinking herself down, trying to hide constantly. (I just want to grab her by the shoulders and straighten her up. Makes my back sore just looking at her!)

More than anything, Meg comes across as really shy, that's why she may seem miserable. I would guess that all that attention and cameras and stuff is a necessary evil for her, a price she has to pay to do what she loves - make noise playing drums.
It's true that Jack is probably the more creative one, but she still contributes to the band in other ways.

Don't sell Meg White short. She's a wicked good drummer/percussionist. Perfect for The White Stripes. She might not like all the crowds, but she's great playing those sticks.

reply

Do you really think she looked so miserable? She was always smiling that coy little smile through the whole movie nearly.

You're all making baseless speculation about a woman you don't know. Also, at no point in this movie did it appear to me that Jack was being abusive to her. Any "rude" comments he made to her were clearly in jest and anyone who's had meaningful interactions with other people can see that. Also, every piece of live footage I've ever seen from them implies that they have an incredible dynamic. They play without set lists, for example. You'd have to be able to really connect to another person to manage that.

Exactly. End of story.
