Hypocritical Ending

Wallace's whole character is informed by his parents cheating on one another and his past relationship ending in infidelity as well. We even see the scene where he stumbles upon his girlfriend kissing another doctor. And yet we were supposed to celebrate when Chantry and Wallace finally get together at the end by Chantry committing the same act of betrayal toward Ben that had caused Wallace's cynical view on love and relationships.

The final scene essentially sees a woman in a long term relationship passionately kissing another man and it's supposed to be supported by the audience? Ben was never portrayed as antagonistic at all, save for the punch to the face. His final scene even sees him trying to figure out a way their relationship could survive such a long distance and make's reference to their future children.

Beyond the cheap thrill of seeing two characters with undeniable chemistry kiss, what we saw was legitimately cheating. It leaves a very bitter taste, and drives a spike through the entire character of Wallace, a man who has seen both parents cheat, been cheated on by his ex, and yet when it suits him, is ready to commit the same act he so adamantly criticised earlier.

Weak.

It wasn't hypocritical, he just changed his thoughts about it. At the beginning he has very black and white thinking, his parents cheated on each other so he decided it was Bad. He catches his girlfriend cheating and he dumps her immediately because that's Bad. So he develops a very cynical idea of love, thinking it should be simple and Good, but of course that's only true in fairy tales. By the end he realizes that things are more gray, that love is complicated and hard but still worth having and changes his mind about cheating being 100% black or bad because good can come out of it too. Like him and Chantry or Allan and Nicole.

Also Chantry never cheated on Ben. I thought they broke up when she left him in Dublin? They never got together until after.

This movie was garbage! None of the characters were likeable. It says cheating is okay as long as it's between the main characters.

I don't know which movie you guys watched. They never cheated. She broke up with Ben in Dublin because she realized she did not have enough in common with Ben anymore and that he had moved on with a different friend circle. And even after that didn't get together with Wallace for a long time after. Neither acted on their feelings and Chantry didn't even realize she thought of Wallace as more than a friend until after the big diner fight. That is hardly cheating.
