Hypocritical Ending
Wallace's whole character is informed by his parents cheating on one another and his past relationship ending in infidelity as well. We even see the scene where he stumbles upon his girlfriend kissing another doctor. And yet we were supposed to celebrate when Chantry and Wallace finally get together at the end by Chantry committing the same act of betrayal toward Ben that had caused Wallace's cynical view on love and relationships.
The final scene essentially sees a woman in a long term relationship passionately kissing another man and it's supposed to be supported by the audience? Ben was never portrayed as antagonistic at all, save for the punch to the face. His final scene even sees him trying to figure out a way their relationship could survive such a long distance and make's reference to their future children.
Beyond the cheap thrill of seeing two characters with undeniable chemistry kiss, what we saw was legitimately cheating. It leaves a very bitter taste, and drives a spike through the entire character of Wallace, a man who has seen both parents cheat, been cheated on by his ex, and yet when it suits him, is ready to commit the same act he so adamantly criticised earlier.
Weak.
