The next McAuley Culkin?

I fear Daniel Radcliffe is to be remembered as a child star.

He was AWFUL in this.

Having said that, he didn't have much to work with...

I thought he was quite good in this movie actually, though I do think I prefer his performance in A young doctors notebook.... where he had more to work with. I really liked his chemistry with Zoe in this movie though.

As for the Macauley Culkin comparison, there is quite a difference there. Macauley Culkin chose to stop making movies when he was very young. He had difficulties with his home life and his father. He had a huge gap after Richie Rich where he didn't release a film for 9 years. So he went from releasing Richie Rich when he was 14 to not filming anything until he was 22 or 23. That is a huge gap.

In comparison to Daniel Radcliffe, who has been steadily working since he was 10. He's 25 now and still has 2 films that he has already filmed and will be released and about 4 films that he is currently attached to. This film is actually the 3rd film he has released after Potter has ended. That's not even getting into all the stage work he has done. I think he's doing just fine at the moment and critics seem to like his performances for the most part. I don't think he'll ever please everyone though.

Interesting comment.

Maybe it's just me. I didn't find his performance in this good in any way at all.

Just musing, perhaps, that the best days of his career are behind him.

Thanks for the Culkin info. Good background work!

His acting wasnt horrible. For me it was an adjustment because in my mind Daniel Radcliffe just isnt a love interest. There's no sex appeal in harry potter. However he got me to see him as his character once my bias faded a bit

Yes he was awful. But watch him in Horns, he's rather good.

As always Dan was very, very good, u trolls leave him alone ;)

He was nominated for best actor for the Canadian Screen awards for this. I know that it is only the Canadian awards - but still, goes to show that he was far from awful.

I have found his acting in several films to be kind of stilted. I'm not sure why; I loved him in Harry Potter. I personally found this movie to be pretty boring but I only paid a $1.50 to rent it so I can't complain too much. Glad I saw it either way as I would have always wondered.

I bet a lot of people disagree.

Yep!. I am one of them..

Daniel may not be the next Olivier, but I have yet to see him put in a less than a solid performance (although I have to go on my friends report of his truly excellent performance on stage in Equus) and in "What If" I thought Daniel was good in his part, and had in Zoe Kazan a leading lady who complemented him very well.

Agreed. I quite enjoyed the movie and both performances.
