6.9?! What's wrong with all of you?

This movie was so much better than a 6.9. Transcended the rom-com formula, had an incredible script, fantastic acting. Seriously, guys.

Their are numerous cuts from what I can tell. The us release for example has a rather drawn out and imho crummy ending. I also don't think it transcended the formula, it in fact followed it almost to a fault. But some good writing with actual wit and chemistry between the two leads has this as a great example of that formula actually working (which is awfully rare). Regarding ratings, they aren't worth paying attention to. They are rated by numerous 'random' people and then are weighted by an unknown formula. Meaning they are meaningless beyond maybe extreme examples (a film with a 1 rating is very likely to be bad for example).

Agreed 100%. This movie ticked all the right boxes. Throurougly enjoyed it from start to finish, great, great acting (especially from Dan - his humor is always so on point), the writing, dialogue, was on point, very real and honest and the build up was perfectly executed, the soundtrack, especially the song at the beach and the final scene, was perfect. LOVED this film. 8/10.

I gave it a 4. I saw a lot of chick flicks recently and this one was pretty boring. Not bad, but boring

Anything five and below is BAD. Do you remember your school grading? Assign a number to a percentage:

10: A+ (100%) Perfect
9: A (90%) Great
8: B (80%) Good
7: C (70%) Average
6: D (60%) Poor
5: F (50%) Fail
You get the idea for this and anything below, now go and adjust your rating accordingly. Go!!

reply

Except thats not the IMDB rating system. In fact, IMDB was adamant about a 5 being average 15 years ago. Their rating system is not worthless.

reply

People don't vote on what IMBD thinks their rating system means. People see a 1-10 rating system and vote accordingly. I use the system that I laid out above.

I don't need no stinking signature!

Which rom-com formula? Guy meets a girl, she has a boyfriend, she breaks up with him, then we have some unnecessary conflict but everything turns ok, happy ending, the end? This movie totally transcended it, yeah.

like what else movie?

I helped give it a boost.

Like hell it transcended it; it followed it throughout. I liked the film as a whole, but it employed the same storylines that a host of other rom-coms have followed. Since the audience knows where the trip will lead, a movie like this can only succeed if they enjoy getting there. I did, so it worked.
