I didn't detect awkwardness at all, but he did have a sort off standoffish manner. This manner - mixed with (what I saw as) his natural manner of being agreeable - made it easier for people to open up to him (the camera?). Imagine if he had an in-your-face persona while meeting these people. Not only would he have been rejected, but they also would have been less likely to tell him their life stories. I know that this story is overall about Craigslist and Craigslist Joe, but after watching it, I read it as being about the people who he interviewed. It was about the interviewees, Joe was more of a instrument of them telling their stories/showing their character (when being filmed, haha) using Craigslist as a mean. His personality was perfectly open and nonjudgmental (for the most part) to allow people to share their lives with him in more than one way as they shortly crossed paths.
