Enjoyable film but misplaced title/ end credits

I really enjoyed the film. While the ending was a little bit of a let down, I thought it was well made. My main gripe about the film though is the choice of the credits. I know this seems like a silly thing to argue about but for a film set in 1849, as soon as the film cuts to black we are treated to loud music that doesn't match the film (likely a contract/ sponsorship deal between the studio and the band agents). The credits also look like they belong from the latest Tron film or Mirrors Edge video game. It takes you out of the film and is an unfortunate choice when I really liked the original soundtrack.

That said I still enjoyed the film but does anyone else feel the same?

Agreed. That's the first thing my teenage daughter and I said to each other as the credits rolled.... What the hell?

Very strange choice.

Tongue-tied and twisted, just an earthbound misfit...

Yes agreed about the credits and the futuristic rays surrounding a metal raven sculpture was just way OTT for me...and the song was too modern for a nineteenth century murder mystery.

YESSSSSSSS! I just logged onto imdb, after watching this movie on Netflix. The ending credits seemed to almost give off a hipster vibe. It did not flow with the film. My wife and I were extremely confused by the choice in credit music and graphics. Strange choice.

I'm surprised more people haven't commented on this since you posted almost a year ago. I came here to post the same thing and then noticed your post. Like someone else said, "What the hell..." The ending credits were the weirdest thing about the whole movie and certainly didn't fit the rest of the film. What were the producers or director thinking?

It's like they turned it over to a heavy metal band and a an LSD coven and said, "Make us a far out ending with the credits. Even the repeated lyric was weird, "I have burned my tomorrow..." Maybe somehow it was meant to show Poe's insanity which is insane in itself.

I can't say it was the worst ever but it was up there.

Lol!! Criticizing the credits!!!

I don't love her.. She kicked me in the face!!

And what's wrong with that?

Movies I've watched recently:
Children of Men - 7/10
Man on a Ledge - 5/10
Serenity - 6/10

Nothing. People criticize just about everything.....

I don't love her.. She kicked me in the face!!

Actually, it's about people wanting to maintain a consistent mood, and not be yanked out of the aura of the narrative too early. Think about my own personal champ of the Serial Killer subgenre, Se7en, and how the opening and closing credits contribute massively to the pall of grime, dread, and homicidal insanity that hangs over the whole movie.

reply

Yeah, just watched on Netflix.

When the end credits roll, I thought I was watching a James Bond movie. Was waiting for a sidelit Daniel Craig to stroll toward the camera, or girls and guns in silhouette to start doing cartwheels.

Come to think of it, RAVEN sounds like a great name for a Spectre-type criminal organization, doesn't it?

Those end credits match the Team America *beep* Yeah event of the bad guy having been killed. It's like bang----======>>>>>>CREDITS.

I am laughing because I thought the same thing "What is this freaking BS"....

But then after a few seconds I turned the channel and it didn't bother me anymore.

I gave the movie a 5. I just think it was missing something.

I thought Alice Eve was pretty stale. The dude that plays her dad I've always liked, just thought his role was your basic "daddy hates boyfriend" type.... John Kusack is alright.... But ya know what, I really liked the guy that played the detective, Luke Evans. I do not believe I have ever seen him before, or I have and never noticed him. I think that guy could be a solid actor in the years to come.

I too thought Luke Evans was the best part of the movie. I'm looking forward to seeing more of his work.

You are correct. The credits/end music were jarring and in no way fit in with the tone of the film. The only worse example of this is the fairly recent rap music used in "The Great Gatsby". The music in that film was enough for me to stop watching it midway through the film.
