Why didn't Zack Snyder or Frank Miller direct this?

Imagine it: The world would be totally contrasted, almost black and white. It would be kinda soft and grainy. The blood and Red Riding's cape thing would be a bright contrasted red, kind of like in 'The Spirit'. And there'd be slo-mo, like when the wolf is leaping on someone, damn, there's a film with enormous ratings!
Instead, they cast Cathrine Hardwicke, who so heavily relied on her fan base to give it good ratings.

'Did you lose your fight? Huh?'
'No... (whispers) I just found it.'
