Neutered.

Wow, way to take the edge COMPLETELY out of the episode. The few seasons it was on Showtime were, in my opinion, the best of the entire series. It felt dangerous, it took risks, it wasn't safe family programming, and that's what I wanted out of the series. When it moved to Sci-fi it felt like it had it's ball chopped off and played it safe for like, what? 7 years? This final cut was completely unnecessary and really took the impact of the original and chucked it away.

Yeah, I agree.

There where some moments between lines that in the first cut had nice music.
In this one the music was replaced by something more generic and lower in volume.
There was also some background ambiance that made the episode feel alive was also removed.

When Jack he first met Hammond there was a joke about writing a book and that he'd have to shoot anyone who read it because he's work was mostly classified.
That joke was removed.

Carters classic line "just because my reproductive organs are on the inside rather than the outside, it doesn't mean I can't do your job"
That line was remove.

Many little things here and there that made the series so unique was removed and the hole feeling died with it.

This episode seemed like a rough cut and the first cut seems like a finished product.
This episode should never have been touched.

Carter's line was awful! I'm sorry but if you think that is a good line then you have problems. I do miss the line from Jack about writing a book though, that was good.

reply

Awful it is, I don't deny that. But it's still a classic that should remain.

reply

I thought the recut version was much better.

reply

Ok bible thumper, we know why you liked the re-cut version better. Some of us aren't afraid of a little nudity, however.

reply

I liked it, except the pyramid shot, (looked fake) and the ending with Kawalsky removed. bad idea. And never noticed the line about having t shoot anyone who read his book removed.

The music was what was originally done for the pilot, but instead of using it, the network mixed in music from the film instead.

Hightower is right. Good or bad, once you take that line out, the whole premise of Carter repeating that line in episode "200" (the puppet scene) will be lost.

reply

I see your point, but at the same time hardcore fans will understand the joke. People watching the dvds now are fans.

reply

i like that they take out most of samuels annying line (pressing too lock out there code)

did anyone notice they take out Kawalsky getting a snake in his head?

Whoa, lady, I only speak two languages, English and bad English

reply

"Carter's line was awful! "

Agreed. The whole reason they made fun of it in the later epsiodes was because they recognized how bad it was. It's one of the things I like most about SG1. They can be serious and dramatic, but they can poke fun at themselves and have a laugh at their own bad choices (which are few and far between).

Stand by for Ludicrous Speed......

I like that line simply for O'Neill's response to it. He just totally undermines her on her assumptions about him.

The only edge in the pilot vs final cut is the fully nude Sha're.

Likewise, with seasons 1-5 (Showtime) compared to seasons 6-10 (Sci-Fi/Syfy), the only edge is the nude scene in the pilot. The rest of 1-5 is no more edgy than 6-10.

I love seasons 1-5, but also 6-10.

There are story elements in the 1st half of the series that develop through the 2nd half.

Except for the the nude scene, there are no aspects of 1-5 that are any more risky than 6-10.

If anything, 6-10 took more risks for deviating from the old stuff, yet all the while still maintaining the core tone and overall effect of the stories told.

The only part of the entire series not safe for family was the nude scene in the pilot. The rest of 1-5 are just as family friendly as 6-10.

The only thing I agree with you on, well, I agree partly, is that the Final Cut was unnecessary. I am still glad that we have it, there are some interesting additional scenes in it, but that's about it. I prefer the original pilot over the edit.

...about how the original pilot is way better than the final cut.

Still, s1-5 and s6-10 are both great.
