did he have a hard-on? (spoiler)

Sorry I have to ask this. But this is an important scene in the movie.
After the son took off the dead girl's underpants for superstitious reason, the camera moved down to his crotch area and showed something like a huge hard-on. Am I wrong about this? Why would or how could he have a hard-on under the circumstance. What’s the message the director wants to tell us? I don’t get it.

Another question: After killing the girl the son returned home and the mother was ironing clothes, why did the son attack the mother all of sudden? Did he try to rape her or something?

---He did not really try to rape her. He just wanted blow off the steam. He was just under such pressure that he wanted to get rid of all the pent-up energy or strong emotion. He was just embittered against what he went through, his failed relationship (just when he got serious),his alcoholic mother and his father who eloped with his aunt.
---Yes he had a hard-on.This may be a case of necrophilia but I am not sure that. I guess the director wanted the viewer to think he was under pressure that he need blow off that energy somehow.

He beat his mother up because she lied to him about the girl's family asking for money.
We never saw that on screen. We took her word for it. When he found that out he went home and beat her up. That's why she went right back to ironing afterwards without a word of complaint because she knew she deserved it. And that's also why the cop later asked her if she was part of the reason why the girl was dead.

The mother could not stand the son coveting things. Did you notice about the cat? That was the first hint.

I think it was her idea for him to sell the motorcycle, also. The friend brings the guy to test drive it; then we see later the son tells his mom that he didn't sell it. I was puzzled by this at first because I thought he did sell it; but when you mentioned the cat; it all starts to make more sense.

I like some of the cinematography of this film. The use of mirrors several times was quite unique in drawing you into the characters. The shot of him calling from the payphone was brilliant. And the "fern" leaf that closes when touched. Very interesting.

Granted the material is dark and unnerving, I think this movie is brilliantly acted and directed. Kudos to the director of photography...

Yes there are hints. But i watched it again and again, but i can not find the turning point of boy getting know the truth about actions of his mother. Where is it ? How he possibly could get the truth? The girl was just moaning:"i dont know anything"
