This movie remind me of Fish Tank http://www.imdb.com/title/tt1232776/

i agree. i think fish tank was better. more realism and without the "mental illness" angle. it also has a more positive view on hip hop music than in pure.

not much can be positive from songs that talk about "bitche$" and "wh0res" and when kids think that is music, just a lame tune.

some of the scenes (when Katarina was on the streets) resembled Christiane F. www.imdb.com/title/tt0082176/. I don't know if this director was inspired by the Christiane F. film because both characters look similar.
