One of the worst movies...

I've ever seen. Seriously, what was that? It was just plain awful & really made no sense. So the parents lose the tour but don't care enough to try & find them? And aren't they both married? Did they forget that part? Can't believe I wasted almost two hours on this.

The plot was so boring that I turned it off after 30 minutes.

I too give movies 30-45 minutes. If they don't interest me that far into the movie I delete or change the channel. This movie annoyed me and I'm 43. The mother and daughter fighting was particularly overdone and stupid. The disreguard for their spouses made it unrealistic in my view.

When Edith asked the rape, murder, etc questions ... I think those are very serious issues .. Especially to females. She asked the rape questions with zero regard for her daughter. 50% of women are raped in college. It's nothing to joke about. I don't know if a caring mother would do that but it's just my opinion.

Oh and the guide was very annoying ....

Agreed! The funny thing is that my boyfriend and I sat through the whole thing, because we LOVE Vera Farmiga, so we figured it had to get good at some point. But we wasted our time because this is probably the worst film she's ever done, even though you can tell she gave it 110%! Obviously that means that the writing was bad. Between the corny scenes with them "dancing" in the balcony at the theater, and the way Andy Garcia dances in that dorm room, and just how freely both parents decided to go off on their own, abandoning their kids on the college tour. Ugh.

To be fair, I do think there is an audience for this...probably middle aged or older people would find this a cute romantic story. I'm in my 30's and I just felt completely annoyed by the character's antics and how corny everything they said & did came across.

I totally disagree. Get a few more years under your belt and maybe you can appreciate this movie. I loved it.I can see how younger people would not appreciate this film. Those who have been married for 20 or so years might appreciate it more.

No need to be old to appreciate this film, I'm 22 and I loved it!

It was a sweet film. And the leads were very good. Many people get bored with things that are low-key and quiet like this. But I am older and really enjoyed it, too. It's a question of taste, not age.

I totally disagree with you. I am older and have been married for over 30 years. The writing was horrible. The characters were so annoying, especially the mother and daughter. What a pair of spoiled brats. Stealing someone's bicycle rude and unthinking. some students come out looking for their only means of transport…I did think the guy who lambasted the mom for interrupting was an *beep* but she then proceeds to show him that she is one too. And the daughter, yelling at a prof because he dares to take a sabbatical just when she wants to study with him. And that's only the most glaring.

I too had to laugh when I read that once you get older you'll appreciate this movie. I wanted to gag myself at least a dozen times during this mess and I only kept watching in fascination at how awful a movie with (usually) good actors could be. It was embarrassing to watch Vera Farmiga overacting as though she was Kristen Scott-Thomas in The English Patient. And Andy Garcia, as this character, had to suppress almost everything that normally makes him engaging and interesting on screen. I understand why people regard it as a noble attempt to deal with realistic and true-to-life themes but that does not make up for such painfully bad moviemaking. The whole thing was immature, contrived, phony, obnoxious, and one cliche after another.

I loved it.

Adding to the previously mentioned cringe-worthy, contrived scenes. Why didn't they steal a wheel chair? That would have been funnier. She exhibited devil-may-care personality that I detest. She coaxes him close to the edge of the building as if his acrophobia is a button down personality trait and not a pathology. There is nothing revealed in the early scenes that show anything but a good relationship between parent and daughter, yet she abounds the tour in this most important mission of her daughter. Pot scene... (I know that mj can have different affects on people, but she's sitting there stroking a stranger's hair while her abandoned daughter is looking for her. Writer and director are clueless. Oh, and, the typical cliche at the end where ends the day tie undone, eyeglass tossed on the ground by his narcissist playmate. I could go on, but just want to say I comment because the idea, college setting, and good actors should have had a better outcome. Daughter rails at professor in unrealistic vulgar language! Give me a break. I loved the piano playing scene, but her hugging the student because he was stressed. Hey, you own daughter was stressed!
