Caiera's superpowers?

Where do Caiera superpowers come from? She is a (I think) 'shadow warrior', but what's that? She must have been born with it because the Red Prince recognised it in her when she was young!

Also, was she immune to Spikes? If the Red Prince used Spikes in order to flush her out then he must have used a weapon that he knew would have no effect.
