Oh you silly Christians...

Why do Christian films always look so obviously Christian? I could smell the Christianity on this piece a mile away.

PeeeeeeYewwwwwwww.

seriously...just watched the trailer for this piece of turd...looks like an afterschool special....religous movies are so friggen wussy...why bother...who watches this crap?

reply

felt the same way watching the trailer. mildly intrigued by the plot, then felt the overdose of over-simplification for the sake of propaganda.

reply

OH THANK YOU!!! I watched the trailer with my mouth wide open in surprise... What was this???? Must have been something wrong with my radar, but it makes sense now... A christian film - but ofcoarse...

I wanted to laugh out loud it was so bad. Every line sounded fake and cliché and sounded like someone been picking lines from blockbusters. And The notion of everyone being against a 13 year old who wants to make a movie... Every 13 year old want to make a movie, an a lot of them are.... Stupid stupid stupid... And the music??? Dont get me started... Wow - this was sooo bad... How did they get apple.com to add this trailer?? Dont they screen them??

reply

lol, i went to imdb just to see if it indeed was a christian movie and i see so it was.
it was REALLY obviously christian.
only christians think of other people and the world as childishly evil and mean-spirited as people were portrayed in the trailer.

oh and yes, a kid has made a feature length movie before. look up Emily Hagins (iirc), and the documentary "Zombie Girl".

Actually knowing that it's a Christian movie makes a lot more sense after watching the trailer.

whats your definition of "christian film", then?
its made by christians with overtly christian tones permeating it.

reply

I honestly thought the trailer was horrible, but I did see the full film last night and was very, very surprised. The producer has a lot to learn about trailers, but the film was a lot less "Christianized" than I thought.

Just wondering what's wrong with a Christian film? I personally don't watch them, probably for many of the same reasons as you seem to dislike them, but why bother coming on here to make snide comments? There are all sorts of genres -- gay and lesbian, political agendas, ethnic groups, you name it. So the Christians want to make some, too, what's wrong with that?

reply

The main thing wrong with it is that it is not marketed as a Christian film, but as a comedy (though there was nothing funny in it, well, maybe except his parents, but it is so overdone that it is not funny but ridiculous) and drama (which was of the soap opera type). I wasted my money on this dumb DVD because they lie about it.

They advertise it as the movie every teenager needs to see, while, in reality, no teenager can ever like this movie. And no educated person of any age. This film is nothing but covert propaganda for the ideology that gave us the Dark Ages and slowed down progress for some two millennia. They think that if they do not mention it is a Christian film, they will somehow convert the potential viewer to their vile and inhumane cult.

It also uses two relatively famous young actors, Leo Howard and Booboo Stewart, in the hope of attracting viewers. Yet, they gave them totally clichéd and unrealistic roles. Next to them they placed people who could not act if their lives depended on it. The kid who plays Logan’s older brother is a terrible actor, even if his role is very important for this film. Even the extras are terrible. There is, for example, a scene in a Sweet Shoppe where a girl behind the counter is serving ice cream to another girl who then takes it to her table. Both are painful to watch, as they are overacting and you can just feel how they think this is their one chance to make it big in the movie industry (they won’t!). They are moving deliberately and slowly, which is completely wrong for their roles. Ice cream is not a bomb which can explode at any moment, so why are they carrying the ice cream as if it was going to cause a nuclear explosion?

Leo Howard, who plays Logan, is a fairly decent actor and a world-class martial artist. Him playing a wuss is ridiculous. All you can think about all the time is why does he not defend himself, when he knows how to!

Last but not least, as a psychologist I had to cringe at the ending with its ridiculous pop psychology. Teenagers do not act like that, no matter how some preacher would want them to. And the suicide is just pathetic. I was bullied much more back in my school years than Logan, yet never even considered suicide. Those who do, have it much tougher than Logan.

So, the film is absurd and highly naive. And that is what is wrong with it being a Christian movie. If at least they were honest about it (isn’t lying a sin in their religions?) and marketed it to Christians as a Christian movie, it would get much better ratings and might even be quite successful with their true audience.

That reads as a long list of things you dislike about the movie, only one of which has anything to do with it being a "Christian" movie. Even that is kind of bogus. Films geared toward other audience don't have to come with a warning label, so why should a "Christian" film be required to carry one?

Well, you asked. I answered. I did not start this thread. I am not the one who complained about it being a Christian movie.

I was just answering your question about what was wrong with it being a Christian movie. And I did say nothing was wrong with it being Christian. What is wrong is that it uses false advertising, hiding the fact it is nothing but propaganda, and a poorly executed propaganda at that. People would be equally annoyed with any other propaganda movie that advertised that every teenager should see. The movie would have been much more successful if it was honest in its advertising, as a lot of people in its target audience would see it.

Also, false advertising is against the law in the US, where this movie was made.

It's a fault with most US films, they should just never try and make movies like this. They are best left to the Europeans and the Canadians.
