Eddie Murphy's character didn't want his daughter to date a white man. This was a serious issue and Jonah Hill's character's reaction to it and the confrontation at the end made sense.

But the Julia Louis-Dreyfus and Lauren London beef?
How exactly was this comparable?
Yes she was tone deaf and cringey, but Lauren's reaction was unwarranted.
They tried to make JLD's and Murphy's character equally bad, but it was simply not. Her character was basically autistic, which I'm sure wasn't the writer's intention, but that's what happens when they try to make Lauren's and Jonah's issues with the in-laws comparable.

I agree. Julia Louis-Dreyfus came off as someone that was well meaning, but didn't know to interact with black people. She probably needed someone to check on her some of the things she said, but I didn't think that confrontation of warranted.

Eddie Murphy on the other hand was blatantly racist, and didn't try to hide it. His treatment was calculated, and he bullied him because he could. This confrontation needed to happen in order to gain his respect. Ironically he gave him advice to stand up for himself earlier in the movie when they were in the barber shop.

That has to be an intentional typo, right? I mean, 'charcuterie' and 'caricature', which is the word I assume MrMovie intended, aren't even that similar.

Since he believes Julia Louis-Dreyfus was playing cold cooked meat, I would say that's a pretty fair assessment.

She was overexcited about her overweight, unattractive son finally getting married so I kinda get why she acted so hyper and tried too hard.

Mai. Issue with the film that was otherwise very funny.

They forced the conflict to fit their purpose for the story, which was to end with the romance.
