After ALL that

He only gets a kiss on the cheek. *beep*

Since Ted is 12 and Audrey is around 15-17 (probably closer to 17) I didn't think there would really be any kind of a romantic relationship between the two. Ted just had a huge crush on Audrey and was trying to impress her by trying to find her a tree. I'm sure Ted found the kiss on the cheek to be quite thrilling!

I'm fine... I'm giddy!

OP, you've got to be kidding. That kiss was PERFECT. Her facial expression before/after the kiss was perfect. They are definitely going to end up together sometime after the movie. The next day, or the next week, or months, or years? Whichever it is, you can tell it's going to happen.

The romance was the only reason I went to the movie in the first place (not that it was the only thing I liked about it AFTER having seen it), and as I watched the movie, I was nervous about how the writers were going to resolve the romance without causing any controversy-related rants. If Ted and Audrey had actually kissed on the lips in the end, the annoying older-women-haters would be making up invalid complaints and call it "creepy"(even though it's not), and if their ending was purely platonic, it would have the potential to be depressing and unfulfilling to the romance-lovers(like me).
...But the way they ended the romance was GENIUS, it's romantic without being able to be visually distubring at all. The way Audrey looks at Ted in the end is cleary a love expression, and kissing him on the cheek knowing that he'd love it was wonderful and it made me love her character even more.
