Let's be real here, this movie was garbage

This film is an insult to all other really good CG animated movies like Despicable Me, How to Train Your Dragon, Toy Story, etc.

You don't even need to concern yourself with the propaganda discussion happening around here. It really is horrible all on it's own, no need to knock it down any further with talk of it brainwashing your children.

How about it just sucks so don't bother letting them watch it?

I feel like I could type a full review that is really long and contains all the flaws but the movie doesn't even deserve that much. But if one thing just stuck out like a sore thumb it would be the character of the Lorax. He was sent there to protect the forest.....and he didn't at all. Not even a little bit. One man and his family destroy the forest with no resistance.

Lorax gets all sad and leaves. You know, after he has just been sitting by letting this destruction come to the forest. The like 20-30 years later the man that destroyed the forest has 1 seed left to give the kid. This seed of course is pretty much magical because it seems to grow right away which triggers the once dead forest to now start growing again.....umm, ok wth?

Lorax descends from the heavens (lol) and tells the man he did a good job and they hug in the end.

Doesn't get much worse than this folks.

Well, there are two schools of thought of movies like the Lorax.

One school of thought goes like this:
"Dude, stop over-analyzing a cartoon made for kids."

The other school of thought is:
The majority of the movie-going public won't normally do their homework on something like 'Dr Seuss' The Lorax.' They'll see the cute trailers, their kids will be enthralled, and this will send them off on a whirlwind frenzy of buying merchandise and wanting their parents to take them to see the film in 'Tree-D!'

Only a select few studios would ever be as gutsy as to follow much of what was in the original story (how we never see the Once-Ler, the boy who goes to see him is an unnamed, curious youth, and how we are left with an open ended 'unless'). Faceless 'creatures' are felt to be lost on today's audiences, so they have to have a face and motivation. The Lorax can't just be a do-nothing environmentalist who just wags his finger-he's gotta have atti-TUDE!

And of course, Ted. He can't just let his youthful curiosity lead him to finding a tree, he has to have the hots for a tall red-headed girl who wants to see a tree. So, pretty much, it's a story of how hormones lead to the revitalization of trees, not the curiosity and possible mending by the next generation.

"Thanks, guys." "So long, partner."

And of course "Ted" was named after Dr/Suess [Ted Giesel. Also in turn AKA Theo.LeSieg.:)

I agree, but shouldn't your insults hide your lack of education a bit more (to cut down on the likelihood of you looking like a tool)? How hard is it to use the right words in such a short sentence?

Please do not make negative comments about a film YOU NEVER SAW. It makes you look stupid.

I could not disagree more xlangamesfl!

The Lorax is a great movie and the animation is based on the drawings from the Dr. Seuss book, so it is a little unfair to compare it to the animation in Toy Story and the other movies you mentioned.

The IMDB rating is crap! I drive a school bus and last year when the movie came out I was in contact with hundreds of children who watched the movie and everyone of them loved it!

From your comments it appears you never even read the Dr. Seuss book at all! The Lorax behaves exactly in the movie just as he did in the book! The Lorax does very litte to stop the Once-ler. He is trying to educate him but the Lorax realizes that he can not make the Once-ler change, instead the Lorax understands the Once-ler must want to change.

In fact, here is a quote from the book just after the last tree is hacked down that highlights my point:

The Lorax said nothing. Just gave me a glance...
just gave me a very sad, sad backward glance...
as he lifted himself by the seat of his pants.
And I'll never forget the grim look on his face
when he heisted himself and took leave of this place,
through a hole in the smog, without leaving a trace.

The biggest change from the book and the movie was the ending. In the book the Once-ler gives the boy the seed and tells him to plant it. That is how the book ends.

In the movie we are not given a time line so we are not sure how long it takes for the trees to start growing again after the first seed is planted. It could very well be months or years later for all we know.

However, you seem ok with toys coming to life and walking and talking in Toy Story but in the Lorax you are not ok with trees growing quickly as if by magic! OK, Whatever dude!

And the Once-ler ends the story in the book with the words:

"Plant a new Truffula. Treat it with care.
Give it clean water. And feed it fresh air.
Grow a forest. Protect it from axes that hack.
Then the Lorax and all of his friends may come back."

So the way the movie ends makes sense to me.

After the Once-ler helps to bring back the trees the Lorax descends from the Heavens and tells the Once-ler he did a good job and they hug at the end.

It doesn't get much better than that folks.

The Lorax is a wonderful movie for children of all ages and I recommend it highly!

I don't think the Lorax was really there to protect the forest, but instead was just there to communicate its importance to people. He mentioned it quite a few times that he couldn't just work his "magic". I figured he needed the Once-ler to figure it out himself. Not much thought required for that assumption.

I'm also pretty sure that the trees didn't grow overnight.

I am pretty sure you can't sell air or people that ignorant to know what was really they before? I also certin that in a cartoon a tree does not need to grow over night. It does not show it was overnight it show a small tree coming up from the ground. for all we know it could be years.

for you take a cartoon movie seriously you really think homer that dumb or a baby in family guy can talk along with a dog? who abuse there daughter? That how stupid it is to take cartoon seriously.

Here another one what about scoooby doo how do they understand what a dog says? how can teens that we don't even know if they even have licenses to drive a van or anything like that???

Toy story just like someone say how do turns come to life? How can toys talk? how can they watch, play video games and know what the puppy wants to do?
