I think Grammie should have been linked to the Once-ler's past somehow

Like in the present, she should have had a shawl which looked vaguely thneedish, or the lady who the first thneed fell on should have been designed to look like her

My theory is that she's the little girl who broke the Once lers guitar or the woman who had the thee need on her head. Depending how much older the Once Ler is lol

Frankly, I found Grammie to be a little similar to that of a slight upbeat verson of Sol Roth (Edward G. Robinson) from Soylent Green. Anyone agree?

Actually I just finish watching the movie and they do link up. Number one, EVERYBODY in that town wanted a Thneed which means she had to be among one of those people who bought a Thneed and knew who he was. Number Two, if you pay close attention he is the man who designed the town and created it. That's why the town is named after his design. So if she is a towns member, she had to know who he was and what he did. Everyone else look like they are too young to know or remember who the guy was because he went into solitude shortly after.
