Lack of diversity + Poor Voice Choices
I like how the TV commercial had all the non-white people in it for about 10 seconds.
As for the main character, it's a shame a rich white kid can't get what he wants. Darn.
Voice of the Characters
I never read the book and knew nothing of the story, which is how I like to watch movies these days. I like to go in completely fresh. I like Dr. Seuss and have read several of his books. The movies have been hit and miss. "Horton Hears a Who" was entertaining and one reason was b/c Jim Carrey did the voice. He knows kids humor well. I also enjoyed "The Grinch" with him as well.
That being said, I knew this movie might not be good from the start once I heard Devito as one of the main characters. For adult comedy, he's great. For a kids movie like this, no. Although it's not really a kids movie to be honest. Most of these concepts are way too hard for kids who don't know economics. I bought this movie for my 7 year old daughter thinking it'd be great for her, as a Dr. Seuss movie, but I was wrong. It's more like a kids movie made for adults, considering the main theme of corporate corruption and all.
I give it a 4/10 for being boring, overly complicated for kids, and a poor choice of voice actors, mainly Devito.
me.
