What happened to 'No more direct to video junk'?!

I seem to recall a few years ago that Disney declared that they weren't going to product more direct-to-video junk movies; they found that the lower quality junk they were pushing through fast to make a buck were watering down their brand image, and diluting the power of their premium feature movies and characters.

And now we have "Beverly Hills Chihuahua 2" direct to video, missing most of the original major stars -- who know better than to attach their names to direct to video schlock. What happened to "keep the quality high and the brand pure", Disney?

I think that was just declared for the animated ones like their famous classics. They did stop after they did The Little Mermaid 3: Ariel's Beginning but now we're just stuck on too many Tinkerbell movies. I didn't know this means that they were gonna keep on making DTV sequels for their live-action movies.

They were probably just talking about brands that didn't suck in the first place. This one doesn't make that cut.

Religion is regarded by the common people as true, by the wise as false, and by rulers as useful.

That was John Lasseter credo when taking over the animation department. Disney will continue to make many, many direct-to-DVD movies.

Come on guys. Its a kids movie for god's sake! The plot was silly and predictable alright but atleast the puppies were adorable and the dialogues like "should have read the manual", "love is like the tail- Spininning and spinning and hurts when you catch it!" did make me giggle. If you are looking for an Oscar level movie you should have not watched it in the first place. IMHO it was funny and entertaining!
