Good Movie But Does It Really Matter?

I'm a Christian and I'm glad they included all points of view and rationally show positions some individuals do take. This is no "pie in the sky" movie. They legitimately discuss and reflect dissenting views and those that question the complete accuracy of the Bible. Going in to this film, I guess I would've put myself in the place of the lead character. Believing most information but having serious doubts about the factual validity of the book of Genesis. This film really made me reflect on that perception.

Still, it never was really crucial in my relationship with God and I honestly don't understand those that make it an issue. For me, I look at parables that Jesus told. They are powerful and relatable stories using fictional examples (ex: there was no actual prodical son) but where tools that Christ choose to teach and inspire. If the Son of God can choose to teach and guide in such a manner, why not the Father? To me, the question isn't whether Adam and Eve really existed but it's the lesson that it teaches that comes from God Himself.

Actually, it makes alot of difference. I used to think what you mentioned, but God is even more incredible when you consider that EVERY thing in the Bible is true. Is it more incredible that God created the earth, or that he created it in 6 days? Both are amazing, and plus he told us all about it way before anyone really had the science background to understand it. Genetics has already proven there to be an EVE. Why should we doubt HIS word at all?

Good points. I don't doubt His word but how they're passed along always needs to be questioned.

I assume you mean the "Mitochondrial Eve," who is the most recent common ancestor of all currently living anatomically modern humans. However, this individual would have been nothing like her biblical namesake, since she was not the only living human female of her time. She was just one individual in a larger group, one member of a preexisting community.

Just because a scientific discovery is given a name which invokes a cultural myth doesn't mean science has proven the truth of that myth.

John 5:46-47
"If you believed Moses, you would believe me, for he wrote about me. But since you do not believe what he wrote, how are you going to believe what I say?" - Jesus

You seem to overlook an important point. If Genesis isn't true, then the message of Christ is meaningless. The Gospel is predicated on a real Adam and Eve who were created and not evolved, who sinned and separated all of humanity from God.

A study of the Hebrew shows that Genesis was written as history. The verbiage used shows that this was the intent of the author.

If Adam didn't exist, how can Christ be the Last Adam?
1 Corinthians 15:45

"All Scripture is God-breathed and is useful for teaching, rebuking, correcting and training in righteousness, so that the servant of God may be thoroughly equipped for every good work."

Which is the greater authority? The Word of God, or the fallible ideas of men about unwitnessed history? After all, science is 100% dependent on observation. Origins Science ends up not being science at all, but a leap of faith regarding unsupported claims about history.

Couldn't Christ symbolically be the Last Adam?

But what if what you call the "Word of God" isn't really the word of god, but rather the word of fallible men? Or what if some other God is the real one and yours is just that god's Satan? Well, you not only would be wrong, you would always be wrong, because you don't acknowledge any other evidence or ideas.

We can't observe the past directly right now, but we can try to observe things today that might have taken place in the past and helped to shape our world and we can observe evidence of things left behind from the past.
