More indie comedy nonsense
Which will be hailed as the next Garden State, no doubt ("oo he was a kinda goofy character on that show, but he's got an artistic edge!")

and garden state was pretty damn good.
shareted reminds me of j.d. too.
i hated garden state. obnoxious movie about priveleged suburban children who have no real responsibilities or hardships that they get bored and depressed with life and try to find meaning in "the shins" and screaming into a pit of nothingness.
but this movie looks kinda good.
that is one terrible reason to not like a movie. as if you had to be living on the street to feel miserable.
shareIsn't that the groundwork for an existential crisis? If you're struggling to survive, you don't have time to search for meaning. That fact that you don't appreciate that notion suggests to me that you wouldn't appreciate a lot of great literature and film.
shareActually there's not much difference between Sam in this movie and Ted in How i Met your Mother. A little less goofy and swears a little bit. But in genreal it could pretty much be the same character.
shareJust because you come from a privileged upbringing doesn't mean you do not have any responsibilities or problems, being rich doesn't shield you from feeling the loss of a loved one or making the end of a relationship hurt any less. It doesn't protect you from the betrayal of a friend or the frustration of getting a bad grade. Should I continue with this list? My point is that everyone has a story to tell and more often than not it looks different once you've delved beneath the surface.
I loved this movie, I think it has a great message about learning to accept who you are and learn to go after what you want. I would highly recommend it to anyone.

The focus of Garden State's protagonist was not the fact that he was "privileged". In fact, Braff never makes a mention of this in the screenplay. The film is about a man who is indulged in a life in which he is completely and emotionally numb due to his childhood consisting of his careless psychiatrist father shoving pills down his throat... all because Braff was tired of his mother acting so selfish. When he meets Portman's character, she is so full of life and eccentricities, it changes his life. It shows that he can make a connection not just with love, but a human being AND feel something again.
On the other hand, I thought this film wasn't the greatest, but it showed potential due to it's screenplay. It was very well written, although it could've had a different ending... a little too pat for my taste.

Some people just don't like good movies.

Yes, sometimes Indies can be extremely pretentious and trying too hard to be hip... but some can be really good. I liked this movie a lot and I have friends like a lot of these characters who are from New York so I could see where they were coming from.

I liked Garden State but this movie was terrible due to a painfully cliche script. This movie would actually work well as a parody that makes fun of these hipster/indie film's. The majority of words that came from these characters mouths made me cringe. It seemed like one and a half hours of 'Cool' and pretentious one-liners followed by acoustic guitar.
Abandon the search for Truth; settle for a good fantasy.
