Rip off

This is just the BBC's version of Mythbusters, and Brainiac. Well done BBC. What a great way to spend the licence fee

Fail
I've never heard of Brainiac, and Mythbusters is ok... but Bang Goes the Theory is a completely different premise than Mythbuster--AND it's better
Bag Goes the Theory is not just fun and educational, it's also interactive. A great resource for young minds to gain an appreciation for interest in knowledge.

I'd rather see a thousand different educational shows than just 1 American Idol show. I don't even understand how it can be a ripoff unless they were covering the exact same material. Even IF Bang Goes the Theory was covering urban myths(which it's not), it's exposing new material.. So stop being petty. Just because you don't appreciate being exposed to how much you don't know and understand, doesn't mean others don't. Save your ignorance for your arguments with your friends and family when debating who will be America's Next Top Model

I drew a vague comparison between Mythbusters and Bang Goes the Theory in my review, but I agree, they're not anything alike except that they both feature experiments and are hosted by real geeky, interesting people. There's a lot more similarity between the myriad reality TV shows and crime dramas than there are between Mythbusters and Bang Goes the Theory (I can't speak about Brainiac, as I've never seen the show either).

The road shows and segments involving live audiences and the various social experiments Bang conducts is also a point of difference. The Mythbusters only very occasionally interact with the public for brief experiments, whereas it really seems like Bang is trying to engage the public in the scientific process with their numerous public scientific events and constant promotion of online and offline participation in large-scale experiments. The TV program is just one component in a much larger initiative.

As an American, I really wish we had something similar in the US to promote popular science to the public. That would actually be a good use of public funds/tax dollars, as this is something that will have a very large positive impact on a society in the long run. But instead, we have a group of conservative hardliners currently trying to shut down public broadcasting by cutting its funding.

The UK should be proud of their commitment to scientific learning, including the efforts by the BBC as well as other initiatives, like the Open University. After all, science is a part of the UK's national heritage. Additionally, these programs signify a much more enlightened society than the US.

Game of thrones is a rip off of supernatural. They both have brothers, a father who dies and feature supernatural components. Someone on supernatural even has the audacity to crown himself king of hell.

Since I know sarcasm doesn't translate well via text, this is a public service announcement telling you the above is indeed sarcasm.

Similarities can be made between all kinds of shows. Calling something a rip off of another needs more than a similar theme.

Mythbusters is extremely light on science and high on entertainment, Bang is heavy on science and light on entertainment. Bang occasionally throws in some Mythbusters style experiments but its rare, most episodes are focused purely on educational material and science demonstrations, a lot of episodes dont have a single experiment. Mythbusters science is so useless I dont think its fair to even call it a science show, its just a show with stunts.

If Bang copies anything its not Mythbusters, its a little bit of Top Gear and a lot of NOVA.

How is it like Mythbusters?
