I think most people just don’t care about this or most woke topics.

reply

hollywood will get the memo from this , if there's one thing it hates more than anything its losing money

reply

Sadly I doubt it. A lot of Woke films and tv shows have flopped and they keep churning them out.

They need a fresh crop of writers and actors etc to produce things which are just good and the entertaining.

reply

It's 'woke' to report on abuse? wut?

reply

The Weinstein debacle and metoo kick started the whole woke trend.

But to answer your question, no it isn’t “woke” to report female abuse. It’s woke making films about actual (and especially fictional) cases of female abuse and trying to turn men in general into villains while presenting women as saints, especially years after the fact.

reply

yep agreed.

reply

Basically, there is a segment of society that is insecure as fuck and anything that challenges their worldview is instantly dubbed as "woke".

reply

The side that is insecure is the one that needs “safe spaces” 😂😂

reply

I’m surprised you also didn’t toss in racist and sexist to try and hide the fact that you can’t defend your side of the topic.

reply

Hmmm same could be said about those who are challenged and call people Nazis.

reply

IKR? 🙄🙄🙄🙄

Some of the women who were raped, assaulted, or abused were not actresses. They worked for the company as assistants. After Harvey assaulted them they immediately left the company by their own choice to get the hell away from him. Harvey spent a lot of money sabotaging their careers. Men working for the company corroborated their accounts (one even discussed it on camera in the hulu documentary).

The complainers have not read either of the books or watched the hulu documentary, else they wouldn’t be describing it as a film painting men as villains and women as saints, nor complaining that it happened years ago and the women only made their claims decades later.

FFS, Harvey hired Black Cube (former massad operatives) to intimidate his victims and the journalists.

reply

How is this a "woke" topic exactly? Are you saying you think sexual harassment is okay?

reply

Will win Oscar for Best documentary.

reply

No surprise.

People don't want to spend their hard earned money to watch a depressing oscar bait film about sexual abuse.

Similar reasoning for why The Last Duel flopped, which was a great film but not something people want to rush to the cinema to watch.

Entertainment is paramount for cinema goers. Comic book films, action films, horror films. These do well.

reply

Exactly. Escapism.

People want to get away from their real lives, not be hit over the head with a sledgehammer of moral and social politics, especially when it doesn’t change the real world.

It’s why award nominated films only critics like make little to no money. It’s also why the actors who appear in those films for the hollow “prestige” then appear in big budget escapist films to actually make money.

reply

Yep, and it’s gets increasingly more difficult to truly escape through movies or tv shows. The messaging seems to be everywhere

Hollywood won’t get a dime from me anytime soon

reply

I'm trying to remember, did "Spotlight" (2015) do well when it came out? I liked that movie. And while I really like Zoe Kazan, I just can't muster up interest in this. Seems like signing up for a 2 hour lecture. I'll pass.

reply

Spotlight made $98.7 million from a budget of $20 million, apparently.

reply

IT'S ONLY A LECTURE IF YOU FEEL GUILTY.

reply

No... I don't appreciate being 'lectured' or having shit rammed down my throat about stuff I am not guilty of! That's the point. All that LGBT rainbow woke crap for instance... I never mistreated anyone my whole life for being different but yet I got to be bombarded with it in media, movies, music at every turn. I've also never assaulted any women, never treated anyone poorly for things like race, religion or anything but yet this shit is everywhere I look.

reply

YEAH...THOSE PEOPLE ARE REAL AND LIVE IN THE WORLD...SAME AS YOU...GET OVER YOUR SHIT.

reply

I'm just gonna stop watch propaganda... It's not enjoyable. Movies prior to all this nonsense were much better. Quality has dipped also. Yeah I know it's real but I don't witness it.

It's not cool to be abusive or racist and most people know that. The people who are... I don't know where they get off. The idiot could have just hired escorts.

reply

NOT EVERYTHING IS ABOUT YOU...SOONER YOU ACCEPT THAT THE SOONER YOU CAN START TO SEE OTHER'S PERSPECTIVES.

reply

If it came out in 2019, it might have done well...maybe more so than Bombshell.

reply

Bombshell was some ridiculous propaganda. Lesbian RINOs who are actually Liberal apparently do all the grunt work at Fox News while also simultaneously being molested/harassed incessantly by straight-white males? Ugh. What a ridiculous film.

reply

I still want to see it. I love journalism procedurals. I just don’t like cinemas.

reply

It’s streaming free on Peacock.

reply

Should had gone to streaming.

reply

Ikr I mean who'd want to check this out at the frickin cinema?!

reply

Maybe if this was something that happened in the '70s and '80s when movies like this did once make money like 'All the Presidents' Men' or 'Absence of Malice'. But those days are over. I think 'Bombshell', while a good movie, it also flopped.

reply

Spotlight won best picture. Lots of people went to see that. But these are different times post pandemic.

reply

Shocker. 😂😂

reply

I think there’s a few reasons for this;

1/ The incident itself isn’t that long ago and we all know what is alleged to have happened. A lot of people are bored with it and don’t need to watch a film about what they already have read and seen.

2/ People are bored with Woke outrage and hysteria.

3/ I think a lot of people know that many of the actresses traded sex for roles. The age old casting couch.

4/ We have had a hard few years, CoVid, Inflation, war in Ukraine and it’s effects on the world. Who wants to see a film about privileged people vying for victim hood?

5/ People want escapism and films that don’t beat them with political agendas.
