Anyone have an details on this?

This movie sounds interesting. Anyone know anything about any of the characters or the film itself? Where is this going to be filming?

SPOILERS...

I just finished watching this and came to this board to see what others thought. I was surprised to see so few comments. I've seen some confusion on other sites.
1. Some people are confused about why the dog got shot. I think this was part of his father's desire that his son totally obey him. When Samuel continued to play with the dog even when being told to come inside, the father got rid of that distraction.
2. The twist at the end showed that Samuel's mother sexually abused him. Samuel's mother was likely not getting the affection and closeness from her husband (in combination with her husband beating her).
3. As with the dog, his wife did not stop even when he told her to. I think the dog getting shot was foreshadowing the husband killing his wife by locking her in her shed/studio and setting it on fire. Samuel was 8 years old.
4.Samuel ran away from home but continued to live in the vicinity for 15 years in the woods. To me this seems farfetched that only one person would be aware that he was out there -- a man who left food outside for his dog, that shared his food with Samuel. Especially since the suicidal girl who he met in the hospital 15 years later so easily found his shack.
5. Samuel's father committed suicide in the end. Some people think that when the lock was put into Samuel's hand (to lock the building from the outside) it meant he had killed his mother. I think it meant that his father knew he was not a good man and had abused his son and killed his wife, and he wanted to die; however, he did not want any panic moment where he could escape that fate. He wanted to die the same way his own wife did, except in his case he set fire to the building himself.

Any comments?

I agree with what you said. My confusion is why wouldn't he'd been charged since he locked shed door. Did he tell cops what happened? Only heard him speak once in movie. I'd think cop & wife are protecting him. Do they bring him care packages like razor blades to shave? The dad should have just shot himself w/o involving son then the ending might have made sense. Note: If fan of Showtime's
Dexter, there are 2 actors from the series & a mental patient named Dexter. Hmmm...

I thought I saw a flashback to Samuel locking the shed door as a kid. It was just after locking the door on his Dad. His Dad might not have had anything to do with the Mom, he just didn't do anything about it. He never told the priest he killed his wife, just that he'd done something wrong. The wrong might have been letting his wife die and son run away. Not run away in fear, but in shame. The only one that read Samuel's diary was the guy in the hospital, whose response was to tell Samuel they had both had bad things happen in the past - he had killed his brother.

In the end, Samuel goes back to living in a self-imposed exile. The only visitor being that girl that tried multiple suicides. Could it be she was attracted to him, because he could finish the job for her? Remember, the Docs mom died after her "experience" with Samuel.

He doesn't really kill anybody, they just want to die after spending time with him. The doctor got pretty depressed after spending time with him, but Ruben was able to get to her in time. Come to think of it, Ruben got pretty depressed after meeting Samuel; stopped having sex with his wife and then moved out.

The only person helped by Samuel was the guy that killed his brother - Samuel helped him feel better about what he'd done. Professional courtesy among killers?

In Old Testament terms, Samuel was God's henchman who didn't just kill, but hacked someone to death in pieces. There might be a reason they named the character in this film Samuel and not something like Steve or Mike.
